This role is part of the Infrastructure Services Team within the Business and Technology Services and Support group. The expected outcomes this role will deliver for IDP and its Customers are:

  • Provide advanced testing services across all aspects of the IDP technology environment
  • Create, maintain and execute functional and integration automation tests
  • Create, maintain and execute manual tests
  • Contribute to operational, project and management level reporting
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to other team members and other IS teams
  • Contribute to IDP projects from time to time as required

Key Performance Area


Testing Services

  • Actively participate in a comprehensive range of testing services to IDP stakeholders
  • Co-ordinate with the Test Manager to plan, prepare, execute and report on testing activities
  • Design, configure and implement testing tools, software and configurations as appropriate
  • Proactively work to reduce potential incidents, by proposing, planning and implementing continuous improvements to testing services
  • Provide mentoring, guidance and training to IDP Staff as required
  • Testing related documentation is created, aligned to business requirements, and maintained
  • Testing services delivered to meet business and project requirements
  • Testing services delivered on time, and within budget
  • Testing services are planned, coordinated and occur in a timely manner
  • Testing tools are selected, implemented and configured in line with IDP requirements
  • Achievement of agreed SLAs

Automation Testing

  • Determine automation testing requirements
  • Develop, configure, implement and execute automated integration test cases
  • Develop, configure, implement and execute automated functional test cases
  • Seek opportunities to improve the quality, scope and frequency of automated test cases
  • Assist with the provision of technical advice, with research into existing and emerging technologies that can be leveraged for business benefit to IDP
  • Documentation of automated test cases
  • Maintenance of the library of test cases
  • Alignment of testing activities to IDP business requirements
  • Reporting on test preparation and execution
  • Proactive and collaborative participation in recommending solutions
  • Championing the implementation of new technology capabilities for IDP business benefit

Manual Testing

  • Determine manual testing requirements
  • Develop, configure, implement and execute test cases
  • Seek opportunities to improve the quality and coverage of test cases
  • Documentation of test cases
  • Maintenance of the library of test cases
  • Alignment of testing activities to IDP business requirements
  • Reporting on test preparation and execution
  • Proactive and collaborative participation in recommending solutions

Documentation and Reporting

  • Documentation of testing services and configurations according to IDP standards
  • Specifications documentation is created and maintained
  • Complete and accurate technical documentation, is authored and maintained, meeting corporate standards
  • Specifications documentation is created and maintained
  • Maintenance of Configuration Item records

Change Management

  • Participation in the Change Management process
  • Complete Change Management records meeting corporate policies and standards


  • Participation in Projects as required
  • Provide effective contribution to projects as directed by the Project Manager or stream lead

Stakeholder Management

  • Maintain effective communication with stakeholders throughout projects
  • Managing stakeholder expectations through any development ensuring the stakeholders are fully informed as required.

Customer Service

  • Provide regular reports to Management / Stakeholders summarising testing activities and performance
  • Liaising with users to understand their utilisation of testing services and confirm requirements for enhancements and streamlining of the testing services
  • Regular operational reporting

  • Ensure that the scope of testing includes security considerations and configurations as the core tenant
  • Identify and implement proactive and reactive security focussed test cases
  • Ensure that the privacy and security of IDP Customers and Staff is protected at all times
  • Reporting on security related test cases and findings
  • Coordination and participation in third party security testing
  • Coordination and participation in security incident simulation events


Essential requirements (skills, knowledge experience & qualification):

  • Qualifications – Degree qualified or relevant professional qualification and experience.
  • Experience – Minimum of 3+ Years of experience in automation testing.
  • Knowledge and experience in effectively working with the ITIL framework
  • Analysis and problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to staff and management, to quickly identify problems and implement improvements
  • Experience with SilkPerformer, Selenium and HPALM
  • Strong working knowledge utilising SQL for automation tests and test data preparation
  • Ability to analyse when and where test harness / stubbs are required and apply them accordingly
  • Strong experience in preparing XML scrips
  • Experience building new frameworks and evaluating existing ones
  • Knowledge in Appium to automate apps in both iOS & Android.
  • Interface automation exposure
  • Testing of applications for performance – including for globally distributed end users
  • Ability to perform automation feasibility and provide recommendations for different technology stack
  • Highly developed communication skills for dealing with enquiries and supporting staff in IT
  • Experience working under pressure and organising work priorities

Desirable requirements (leadership & team/project capabilities):

  • Experience implementing testing methodologies and QA standards
  • Cloud computing environments (highly desirable)
  • Customer service skills - Interpersonal skills, particularly negotiation and facilitation, to recognise requirements and ways to satisfy them and maintain good relations with IDP staff and suppliers
  • Ability to elicit and define requirements from varying sources
  • Training & Certification – ISTQB Certified
