Senior Business Systems Analyst

Job Summary/Description
This position is responsible for performing the data curation and data enrichment activities for our data integration and data analytics initiatives. This involves working with our data stewards, customers and technical teams on building data profiling, cleansing, transformation, enrichment, quality rules for better data consumption and use.
Formulates and defines systems scope and objectives based on both user needs and a good understanding of applicable business systems and industry requirements. Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time and form of results. Includes analysis of business and user needs, documentation of requirements and translation into proper system requirement specifications. Competent to consider most business implications of the application of technology to the current business environment. May act as a Team Lead.

Job Duties/Responsibilities/Functions (including but not limited to)
• Performs the data curation or enrichment activities for our data integration and analytics initiatives.
o Profile data from source system to target systems.
o Create data profiles and review with clinical liaisons, customers, technical teams.
o Work with data stewards, clinical / research experts, technical teams to identify data cleansing, transformation and enrichment algorithms for better data consumption.
o Create specifications for data engineers (ETL) to perform data curation/enrichment.
o Plan, develop and test the resulting curated datasets and address ongoing data quality issues.
o Identifies, recommends and incorporates quality assurance and risk mitigation activities into issue resolutions/solutions.
o Has a fundamental understanding of technical concepts with strong SQL skills and an analytical mind.
• Provides business analysis leadership for projects.
o Acts as a liaison between the business customers and technical resources on projects.
o Attends and contributes at regular meetings with both business and technical staff.
o Identifies and resolves migration issues effectively and in a timely manner
o Seeks input from other MDACC resources and/or vendor input to resolve application issues when appropriate.
o Has knowledge of governmental regulations and institutional Policies and Procedures
o Performs detailed data validation to determine if code is working correctly.
• Performs and/or assists in activities related to the assessment, implementation, testing, and support of data integration and warehouse systems.
o Performs process analysis, including feasibility studies, functional requirements analysis and review, detail design reviews, process workflows, and clinical assessments.
o Performs comprehensive testing activities including creating test plans, strategies and both developing and executing test scripts.
o Reviews and provides input for data models and reports. May coordinate or assist in creating models or developing reports.
o Assists in development of strategies, policies, procedures and standards.
o Coordination and adherence to functional and technical development, configuration of process standards mandated by either MDACC and provides justification for any deviation.
o Assists with issue resolution and risk mitigation.
o Communicates problems / issues that may arise in determining solution feasibility and alternatives to the project manager or manager.
o Maintains effective relationships with customers, vendors, project team members and management.
o May design and develop training materials and coordinate training sessions for customers.
o Provides positive feedback to team members when they make a positive contribution.
• Lead and mentor other Business Analysts
o Takes on a lead role in improvement of business analysis techniques and enrichment activities.
o Develop business analysis methodologies.
o Assist manager with business analyst resource allocation
o Mentor and train other junior level Business Analysts
• Process improvement, documentation, wiki updates, participate in workgroups etc.
• Performs other duties and projects as assigned by technical lead, project manager, and/or manager.

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree - required
• Master’s Level Degree - preferred
• Preferred Certification: CBAP
• Five years of experience in business, data and systems analysis specific to data enrichment activities. May substitute require education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis or completed years of college on a one to one basis.
• Preferred Experience:
o Experience in Big Data and the Palantir Foundry platforms
o Three years of experience at M. D. Anderson or three years of equivalent scope and role in other healthcare institution or industry.
o Three years of experience Epic software and knowledge of Epic data.
o Experience in Big Data, Cloud, data warehousing and business intelligence
o Experience working in and a well-rounded knowledge of the M.D. Anderson IT environment.
o Experience in health care environment (hospitals, or drugs not insurance companies)
o Experience in clinical, research, omics, Natural Language Processing (NLP) data.
o Experience in agile methodologies.
