Job Description

InGenesis is currently seeking a Library Clerk to work with our client. In this role, you will be responsible for providing a range of clerical and customer service support in a campus library setting. This position involves assisting library patrons with locating materials, checking books in and out, organizing shelves, processing new library materials, and performing various administrative tasks. The library clerk also helps to maintain a clean and orderly library environment and assists with basic reference inquiries.

Job Duties

  • Greet and assist children in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Check library materials in and out using the library's automated system.
  • Help children locate books, magazines, and other materials using the library catalog.
  • Organize and reshelve books, ensuring they are properly classified and arranged.
  • Assist with processing new library materials, including labeling, covering, and stamping.
  • Perform routine clerical tasks such as filing, photocopying, and data entry.
  • Answer basic reference questions and provide assistance in using library resources.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of library shelves, tables, and study areas.
  • Assist with library programs and events, including setup and cleanup.
  • Monitor and enforce ORR policies and library rules and policies to ensure a respectful environment.
  • Collaborate with other library staff members on various projects and initiatives.
  • Stay updated on library services, resources, and policies.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as needed to ensure effective and successful operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or coursework in library science is a plus.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience
  • Strong customer service skills and a friendly, approachable demeanor.
  • Good organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with library systems and automated cataloging systems.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and software.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.


  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (required)

Physical Demands:

  • Frequently required to operate a computer and file and retrieve written documents.
  • The physical demands include, but are not limited to, standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, handling, kneeling, crouching, and bending.

Other Requirements:

  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens throughout employment.
  • Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.
  • Pass all pertinent required background checks and child abuse and neglect checks.
  • Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position.
