Job Description

InGenesis is currently seeking a temporary Paralegal to work with our client in New York, NY. In this role, you will be working in the NYS Office of the Attorney General’s Law Enforcement Misconduct Investigative Office (LEMIO).

Job Duties

· Assist in reviewing and gathering materials responsive to requests for documents under New York’s Freedom of Information Law (“FOIL”);

· Perform routine paralegal work, including researching the applicability of FOIL exceptions that may be applicable to certain requests made to LEMIO;

· Ready material to be disclosed pursuant to FOIL, including applying redactions to privileged or protected information in documents, and maintain or oversee tracking systems, calendars, and reporting systems.

· May answer routine complaints received from the public, either orally or in writing, and provides routine information regarding processes or procedures to the public. Review case-related materials.

· Schedule witnesses, collects information relevant to the case, and assemble exhibits and briefs.

· May occasionally communicate with people who submit reports of misconduct to gather information about their intakes and to inform them of LEMIO's actions, both telephonically and via email and correspondence.

· May occasionally communicate with covered agencies and other governmental agencies regarding intakes, investigations, and other issues.


Preferred Qualifications

· Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and Adobe, and learn OAG's internal systems.

· Preferred Education: High School or Technical Degree/Certificate

*Pay rate range commensurate on experience.
