Job Description

InGenesis is currently seeking a Physician II to work with our client. In this role, you will provide professional medical services related to the diagnosis and treatment of incarcerated patients, as well as employees injured due to TDCJ-ID work-related activities. You will ensure that appropriate health care is accessible and provided to the inmate population in a timely manner, and you will render final medical judgment regarding care provided to inmates assigned to the unit in accordance with Health Services Policies and Procedures.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs complete medical histories and physician examinations; forms clinical impressions based upon findings; orders diagnostic tests, interprets results of laboratory tests and radiological examinations, prescribes medications, and renders treatments appropriate to clinical impressions.
  • Inspects, completes, and analyzes medical records; assigns, reviews, and updates medical classifications; completes admission notes, progress notes, and discharge summaries and makes rounds on patients admitted to infirmaries or regional medical facilities.
  • Refers patients to specialists for consultations, evaluations, and treatments.
  • Serves in rotation with other physicians to provide after-hours and weekend patient care.
  • Directly supervises all physicians and mid level practitioners.
  • Oversees and manage all operations of the unit's medical department, ensuring compliance with all applicable standards, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and court orders.
  • Adheres to internal controls established for department.
  • Performs related duties as required.


Qualifications:

  • Must hold a current license to practice medicine by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners.
  • Must hold current Drug Enforcement Agency controlled substances registration.

*Salary is commensurate with years of relevant work experience.


Work Environment:

  • Position is located within the confines of a prison, jail, or juvenile detention facility.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to respond to medical emergencies; fast walking or jogging may be required.
  • Must be able to perform CPR and emergency care while standing or kneeling.
  • Must have the ability to assist sick, injured, or aging patients during emergencies, which may involve lifting, dragging, wheeling, or carrying individuals who may weigh more than the employee.
  • Must be able to see, hear, and smell with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to alternate between kneeling and standing.
  • Must be able to lift, push, and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Must be capable of standing on hard surfaces for extended periods.
  • Frequently required to operate a computer and file, retrieve, and review written documentation.
