Summary of Duties and Responsibilities- Services:
A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) is a licensed professional who practices as an independent clinician in mental health. They perform a wide range of clinical duties as advanced nurse practitioners, providing care to adults and families in mental and behavioral health settings. Additionally, PMHNP or APRN are required to corroborate with a psychiatrist.
PMHPs and APRNs play a vital role in mental healthcare, conducts thorough mental health assessments, accurately diagnose conditions, and effectively ordering and interpreting tests, ensuring clients in mental health receive the best possible treatment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) is generally responsible for performing a wide range of clinical duties within the scope of practice under the guidance of a Director of Psychiatry or Chief Medical Officer. This position works directly with adult clients and families in behavioral health settings.
- Responsible for providing psychiatric care for clients.
- Consult with corroborating psychiatrist on cases that are beyond the scope of qualification of PHMNP.
- Put all relevant patient data in medical records and case presentations.
- Provide guidance and consultation to the clinic’s nursing as well as interdisciplinary staff for the wellbeing of clients, which enhances overall quality service delivery of the clinic.
- Ensure quality performance metrics are met.
- Works with multi-disciplinary team to ensure proper diagnosis and therapeutic treatment planning.
- Developing appropriate treatment plans and providing effective management of client care with proper evaluation.
- Responsible for ordering, performing and interpreting tests.
- Prescribing medication for acute and chronic conditions
- Conducting comprehensive mental health assessments
- Diagnosing and treating illnesses
- Educating patients and families about wellbeing and self-care
- Promoting healthcare and health maintenance
- Other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- Possess bachelor’s degree in nursing followed by a master’s degree in Psychiatric or Mental Health Nursing from a state approved and accredited school for professional nursing training. Additionally, at least two years’ experience practicing as a PMHP.
- Possess and maintain PMHP licensure in MO, which must be unrestricted, current, complete, and active.
- Proficient in the English Language, both in a writing and speaking to be able to communicate clearly with all stakeholders, including patients, families, clinic staff and other healthcare professionals.
- Obtain Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification from the American Nurse Credentialing Center or licensure.
- Possess strong computer skills, including working with word processing and data entering applications.
- Must have the ability to work effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds. Also, deliver effective quality care to individuals and families with a diverse belief, attitudes, norms, values and behaviors.
CERT/FICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
· Must have a current and valid Missouri RN license
· Must have a current and valid Missouri PMHP license
· CPR Certification
· BLS Certification
