About Us

BJK Peoples Health Centers is a Certified Community Behavioral Health Organization that provides comprehensive mental health services to children and adults in the northern and central parts of the City of St. Louis and North St. Louis City. A professional mental health staff serves a growing caseload of 2,800 patients, of which greater than ninety-five percent are chronically mentally ill and suffering from major psychiatric disorders. BJK Peoples Health Centers operates a Psychosocial Rehabilitation Center and a Comprehensive Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center for adults and youth.

Summary: Assist healthcare providers in a mental health setting by performing administrative tasks, preparing patients for appointments, taking vital signs, conducting basic screenings, documenting patient information, providing patient education, and coordinating care with other healthcare team members, all while maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA regulations; essentially acting as a bridge between patients and behavioral health clinicians to ensure smooth and efficient patient care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following

- Gathering patient demographics, medical history, and current mental health concerns

- Conducting mental health screenings like PHQ-9 or GAD-7

- Obtain vital signs as patients arrive for provider and assessor visits and properly record in electronic medical record

- Make proper recordings in the medical records as to disposition of missed appointments and initiate tracking

- Initiates patients' education according to the individual needs of the patient.

- Answering phone calls and managing patient inquiries

- Assisting with medication management by checking refill requests and coordinating with providers and pharmacies

- Communicating patient concerns and progress to the behavioral health provider

- Basic understanding of mental health disorders and terminology

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with patients

- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records

- Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently while also following instructions from providers

- Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

Requires two years of consecutive work experience in women's health, internal medicine, or pediatrics in a primary healthcare facility, large private office, or hospital.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to draft routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software and Word Processing software.
