Roanoke College is proud to offer our own brand of dining services.  In this new position, we are seeking an experienced manager who is organized and courteous to provide oversite for a diverse portfolio of essential services within the Dining Services department that support the needs of the Roanoke College community. This position supports the strategic plan and enhances the student experience by providing convenient, user friendly, competitively priced, customer-service focused goods and services.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day oversite of activities in all areas of dining services listed above. Collaborative with other Dining Services Managers on efforts for improvement within our department.
  • Manages the Retail Manager (Freshens), Rooney’s Brews, Concessions, Catering Manager, Cavern Manager, as well as several coordinators/leads.
  • Seek opportunities for future initiatives and programs to enhance customer service. Review these opportunities for sound financial management and practices to ensure they fall within the objectives and goals of the department.
  • Solicit feedback from users/customers and participate in the development of a dining services committee comprised of students, faculty and staff to help enhance dining operations across campus.
  • Collaborate with Conference Services to develop/enhance the summer camp and conference program.
  • Become familiar with IT/Campus Card operations to help address and troubleshoot issues as they relate to our Dining Services operations.
  • Coordinate and track metrics of dining services and usage of the OZZI take out program.
  • Insure that the “Roanoke Difference – Live on Purpose” is integrated within the department operations that you provide oversite for.
  • Monitors food purchases for integrity of ingredients and purchases match production records.
  • Ensure that all funds, physical assets and other property owned or assigned by the college are safeguarded, in working order and well maintained.
  • Performs other related duties and assigned or requested.

  Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Culinary and/or Hospitality Management Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in food service including supervisory, management, training and/ or administrative responsibility.
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety and Sanitation requirements as well as state health codes and requirements with ServSafe certification required.
  • Ability to lead and manage others. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Must be effective at listening, to, understanding and addressing concerns and issues raised by team members and guests.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with a diverse population.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends, or holidays.
