Job Title               : Senior Accountant

Reports To           : Controller

FLSA Status         : Exempt

 Summary: Detail focused individual who will assist the Controller in coordinating the daily departmental operations and financial analysis for the organization.  Monitor on-going costs, prepare statistics and analyze trends and variances.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


Prepares journal entries to be posted to general ledger.


Assist with preparation and control of the Cash Receipts Journal as necessary.


Prepare bank reconciliation's on assigned bank accounts.


Prepares assigned schedules and account reconciliations.


Process assigned grants and invoices.


Analyze assigned general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy of coding and account balances.


Ensures accurate and timely preparation of the monthly financial package.


Analyzes financial statements and detailed expense reports, explains variances to trend, and prepares month-end narratives.


Ensures that the monthly accounting cycle is completed accurately within established deadlines.


Ensures all work is self-reviewed for reasonableness and with a complete understanding before being presented as complete to the Controller.


Prepare reports that analyze activity within departments, across sites and the entire organization to ensure compliance with budgets.


Maintain budget/actual activity reports, as required, to provide management accurate detailed information.


Assist in preparation of the annual budget, reports for Grantee and Governmental agencies and other miscellaneous projects.


Provides direction and guidance to staff.


Maintains record retention and filing system.


Provides direct assistance to auditors during annual audit engagement.


Attends staff meetings/seminars and workshops as needed.


Address concerns of patients/organization in a professional manner.


Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:                                                      

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; and three to five years accounting experience, two years computer operations experience in a mainframe environment, including data processing, reports and system maintenance.   Must have experience in handling high level review of accounting  transactions.  Must have strong spreadsheet skills. 


Ability to detect and avoid errors in preparing and reviewing financial reports.  Must be able to carry out defined policies and procedures.  Must have the ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of management, due to confidential nature of information, must be of sound character.  Healthcare experience preferred but not required.


Language Skills:                                                               

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


Mathematical Skills:                                                        

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


Reasoning Ability:                                                            

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Computer Skills:                                                               


To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Accounting software; Database software; Payroll systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
