Registered Nurse - Residential (Behavioral Health)

Job Description

A professional mental health staff serves a growing caseload of 2,800 patients, of which greater than ninety-five percent are chronically mentally ill and suffering from major psychiatric disorders. Hopewell Center operates a Psychosocial Rehabilitation Center and a Comprehensive Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center for adults and youth. Many services are provided at schools. Emergency services, including a crisis bed and mobile outreach, are available twenty-four hours per day. A multi-disciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, counselors, social workers, educators, and support staff work diligently to carry out the mission of providing comprehensive care to patients and their families.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

The Residential Nurse supervises the health care needs of clients living in a residential living facility. The nurse explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension in a behavioral health living setting. Supervises the day-to-day care of these clients. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques. Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or Physician of patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents. Works with Residential Staff to ensure Level 1 Medical Aides are passing medication in accordance w/ laws and policy. Provides oversight of residential specialist in their direct care role at multiple sites

Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol. Documents nursing history and physical assessment for assigned patients. Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or hospital policy including patient and family instruction. Participates in department or unit quality improvement activities.


Missouri RN licensure, CPR certification and a minimum of 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience and some supervisory experience is required.  Experience working in a mental health setting is strongly preferred.  Reliable transportation with a clean driving history. Qualified candidates must be capable of working in a fast-paced clinical environment, able to handle several tasks and multiple priorities. 
Excellent assessment and triage skills, strong interpersonal, customer service organizational and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Must demonstrate cultural competence working with a diverse patient population. 

Hours: Full Time - Days Monday- Friday
