Summary: General overview of the position and its reason for existence: Under the direction of the COO, Health Information Management, is responsible for the management of the operations of the Health Information Management functions and activities (i.e., clerical, chart completion, coding, release of information, transcription, outside microfilm vendor, etc.). Is responsible for implementing effective policies & procedures and monitoring the activities of the HIM areas to assure that all processes are value added and performed in an error-free, quality fashion.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Manages all of the activities and functions of the HIM department. * Directly supervises and coordinates the clerical, coding, and transcription functions * Plans and prioritizes workload at the beginning of the shift and throughout shift in accordance with departmental goals, turnaround time standards, objectives, etc., so that the deadlines can be met * Assures that staff is performing in a productive manner and that manpower that is assigned is used effectively to accomplish the goals/deadlines that are established. Addresses any concerns regarding employee’s inability to meet productivity standards and apprises the Director of HIM of any action plans that are required for staff * Coordinates activities for the Medical Record Committee (i.e., monthly reports, etc.) * Completes the monthly report by the 15th of the following month. Uses the monthly report to identify trends and any areas that may need to be addressed
Education and/or Experience:
Formal Education and Training - A Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or equivalent in education, training or experience plus two (2) years of previous progressive management experience in an HIM department setting, or other relevant experience. Prior management experience must include budget develop.
