Summary: Proficient knowledge of preventive dentistry including, the ability to instruct patients in the common causes of decay and oral hygiene. Ability to work under direct supervision of other dentist's and department head.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Knowledge of procedures for receiving, routing, scheduling and releasing patients.Maintain and order supplies.Knowledge of procedures for tracking and processing digital radiographs. Knowledge of basic dental instruments and materials in manipulating suctioning and retraction apparatus in patient's mouth while assisting dentist. (Utilize the practice of four handed dentistry)
Skill and dexterity in placing and manipulating motor driven instruments to perform intraoral prophylaxis procedures.Responsible for registration of patients, updating insurance and other information.Sets up dental equipment, coordinates with school nurses and staff regarding setup and student schedule.Conducts cleanings (prophy) and administer fluoride treatment.Ability to clearly articulate and demonstrate oral hygiene instructions and post operative dental instructions.
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent, with 2-3 years experience as a dental assistant; must have dental assistant certificate from accredited dental training institution. Must have excellent interpersonal/human relations skills, ability to maintain confidentiality and customer service.
