Job Description

People's Health Centers (PHC), through its mission, provides comprehensive primary healthcare, such as pediatrics, internal medicine, OB/GYN, dental, mammography, behavioral health, pharmacy, WIC, radiology, podiatry and laboratory services, to meet the health needs of the entire community. PHC provides quality health care and social services to thousands of uninsured and medically underserved people in the St. Louis community.

People's Health Centers also offers an open access clinic (no appointment necessary), client centered cluster visits, community health education, nursing, mobile van outreach, school-linked services and prevention health services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Maintains chart of accounts, prepares compiles and reviews journal entries to post to the general ledger on a monthly basis. Submit journal entries to Director of Finance or CFO for review, before posting to the general ledger. Posts all monthly and year end adjusting entries as directed. Maintenance of complete filing system for all related accounting records and reports. Administer financial and personnel policies within the department and recommends changes in financial policies to the Director of Finance or CFO. Reviews all invoices before processing. Reviews all disbursement activity to ensure accuracy in payments, coding and posting to the general ledger. Ensure all bank reconciliation’s are prepared monthly and necessary journal entries recorded. Monitors and reports monthly on all contract/grant vouchers with supporting schedules. Monthly and quarterly analysis of payroll data for accuracy. Make recommendations to develop, improve and update the Center’s financial systems and procedures as necessary. Assists the Finance Department in preparing the monthly financial statements, including the trial balance. Assists the Finance Department in preparing required governmental reports consistent with the agency’s particular reporting requirements. Assists the CFO in preparing the organizational budget and other various budgets as needed. Analyze general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy of coding and account balances. Responsible for other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience: A Bachelors Degree in Accounting and a minimum of five years accounting experience, with three years being in a supervisory capacity. CPA or MBA and health care experience preferred.

Computer Skills: Proficient use of spreadsheets. Working knowledge of accounting software, IBM A/S 400, Microsoft Access, Excel and Word applications.
