The Sutton Commons serves as Roanoke College’s all-you-care-to-eat dining center. It is a high-volume, 500+ seat dining space that features indoor and outdoor dining overlooking the upper-quad. “The Commons” is a located in the Colket Campus Center and is a gathering place and the primary dining space for our students, faculty, and staff. Our vision is to provide excellent hospitality experiences to all of our guests, while building a team that is responsive to the growing campus community. The Serving Line Attendant’s role is critical in helping with this vision. The starting pay rate is $15.00 per hour.
Key Responsibliities
- Sets up lines with necessary food and utensils and serves food to customers
- Monitors consumption and refills food line as needed before items run out
- Assists in preparation of food items for all meals
- Cleans utensils, serving lines and equipment used in the preparation of food on the line
- Apply and enforce proper methods of safety and sanitation as instructed by the VDH and Dining Services management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills
- No minimum education requirements.
- Ability to measure, document, and report food quantity usage and temperatures.
- Safe food handling knowledge.
- ServSafe certified preferred-- or ability to obtain certification within 6 months.
- Strong customer service skills, and a disposition to providing quality hospitality experiences.
- Knowledge and experience with commercial kitchen and food service equipment, including: operation, cleaning, and basic preventative maintenance. Preferred, not required.
Our staff must display courtesy, tact and respect in all interactions with our students, members of the RC community, and with the general public. This part-time, 9 month position follows the academic calendar. Must be able to work every other weekend. COVID-19 vaccinations encouraged but not required. Uniforms and non-slip safety shoe allowance provided, along with a free meal on scheduled work days.
