Family Support Assistant

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in the development of a support system for parents of children with serious emotional disorders. Who have received inpatient hospital services in the last year or are at risk of hospitalization.

Activities are directed and authorized by the child’s treatment plan include: assisting and coaching the family to increase their knowledge and awareness of the child’s needs; enhance problem solving skills, provide emotional support; disseminate information; linkage to services and parent to parent guidance.

  1. Offer support and information to “drive” services with school and provider teams;
  2. Connect natural supports for youth and parent
  3. Link parent/caregiver to both parent and provider organizations
  4. Develops the voice of parent/caregiver to advocate on behalf of their own child’s needs and the needs of others and supports their efforts to impact change at the service and system level.
  5. Participate in multi-disciplinary team for staffing, family needs and makes recommendations as to goals and services delivery.
  6. Maintains quarterly productivity standards and completes all documentation within the required time frames.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Division of Comprehensive Psychiatric Services Family Support model which includes:

A family member with a child who has been or currently has a behavioral or emotional disorder; the applicant must meet appropriate background checks from DSS, DMH and law enforcement agencies and be a Missouri resident for at least two years; Minimum educational level of a high school graduate or GED equivalent.

TRAINING REQUIRED:

Must successfully complete the Family Support Provider training as approved and provided by the DMH; Division of Comprehensive Psychiatric Services.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Class E Driver License, Dependable automobile, Personal Vehicle insurance, Clean Driving History
