Job Description - Assistant Controller

Curtis Contracting is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller with a proven track record of success. The Assistant Controller will work closely with the current Controller and finance team to oversee financial operation, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and support decision making. Candidates with accounting experience in a construction environment are desired, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-today accounting activities, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, contract administration and general ledger entries.
  • Manage key areas of accounting including intercompany, fixed assets, intangibles, and cash.
  • Assist the Controller in overseeing the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing process.
  • Participate in audits, both internal and external, and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
  • Help establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.
  • Provide support to Project Management on all accounting related matters.
  • Review job budgets with the Vice President of Operations, Project Manager, and Controller prior to setup in the system.
  • Setup new jobs, cost codes, budgets, and perform monthly reporting for review with Project Management and the Vice President of Operations.
  • Mentor and train junior staff members in accounting principles and best practices.
  • Other projects as defined.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in accounting or related field and 5+ years accounting professional experience.
  • Construction industry experience is a plus.
  • High level of initiative with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, deal with ambiguity and assist in managing projects.
  • Ability to handle highly sensitive information with absolute confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Strong PC skills in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn
    accounting system applications.
  • Must exhibit strong communication skills, both oral and written, to communicate effectively with various groups, including project
    management, senior management, superintendents, suppliers, customers, and other key personnel.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to identify problems, communicate them with leadership and solve them.
