JOB SUMMARY

The Coordinator, Mental Health Services oversees a comprehensive and holistic program promoting student behavioral health and wellbeing. The Coordinator serves as a resource, consultant, and collaborator with faculty, staff, and students for the early identification and intervention of at-risk students or students in distress. The Coordinator also plans, organizes, and facilitates educational programs and activities throughout the academic year.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Meeting with students and facilitating referrals to TimelyMD and community agencies
  • Utilizing and updating student case records in the Maxient Platform
  • Maintaining confidential, timely, and accurate documentation of student records
  • Planning and presenting evidence-based trainings, presentations, and assessments that address contemporary college population mental health concerns
  • Facilitating mental health first aid training to members of the college community
  • Developing student screening tools for mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, alcohol & drug use, and suicide risk
  • Designing and administering a College Health Assessment to gather baseline data from students on the following: alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use; sexual health, weight, nutrition, and exercise; mental health; personal safety and violence; food insecurity and homelessness; and hours of sleep
  • Assisting the Student Wellbeing Specialist with projects and providing guidance as needed
  • Administering and promoting the College’s Wellness Platform, YOU at Cecil
  • Facilitating timely follow up with crisis intervention situations
  • Other duties as assigned

OTHER RELATED DUTIES:

  • Attends related statewide meetings as appropriate.
  • Serves on the Cecil College CARE Team.
  • Partner with Cecil County Health Department and other community agencies.
  • Participate in College committees as necessary.
  • Handles other related duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • Education: Master’s degree required, preferably in counseling, social work, health services and/or health promotion.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience in counseling education is preferred.
  • Administrative: Able to identify, project and organize process and procedures related to at-risk students and/or students in distress.
  • Assessment: Data collection, assessment and knowledge is preferred.
  • Presentation: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Able to facilitate large and small group workshops and workshops.
  • Skills/Training: Professional experiences should reflect an understanding of the value and impact of mental health services, substance abuse education and wellness.
  • Proficiencies: Must demonstrate creativity and energy in approach to supporting student success. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Physical Demands: Periodic transport and set-up of materials for programming and training events.
  • Scheduling Requirements: This position is 20 hours per week. This position is not eligible for telework.

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:

  • 20 hours per week
  • Candidate must be available during the hours of 8-4:30; shift to be determined upon hiring.
  • Due to the need of interaction with students, employees, and the college community this position requires in-person presence.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as sedentary work involving lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally, and other sedentary criteria are met. However, there may be times where additional lifting is required to set-up materials and display equipment at outreach events.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving.
