Founded in 1968 to meet the post-secondary and continuing education needs of Cecil County residents, Cecil College has been serving the community and shaping its future for more than 50 years. The College is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the governor. The College’s fifth president, Dr. Mary Way Bolt, reports directly to the Board of Trustees.
Cecil College is centrally located in Maryland’s most northeastern county, just one half mile from Interstate 95. It is easily accessible from Philadelphia and Baltimore, as well as from Wilmington, Delaware.
With a diverse student population, Cecil College enrolls approximately 2,500 credit students and 3,400 non-credit students. Cecil offers associate degrees, certificate programs and non-credit classes. Cecil offers a variety of associate degree and certificate programs.

JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Coordinator of IT Audio Visual Systems, the AV Support Technician operates and troubleshoots AV and IT equipment before, during, and after scheduled distance-learning classes to ensure connectivity to remote sites and smooth class operation. The technician also supports other on-campus events requiring AV and IT equipment such as PA Systems, Windows PCs, and video conferencing platforms including Polycom, Teams, and Zoom.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Facilitates distance learning classes and videoconference meetings.
- Provides user support to meet audio-visual needs for faculty, staff, and students.
- Operates and troubleshoots AV and related equipment including Polycom units, PA Systems, Windows PCs, and video conferencing platforms such as Teams and Zoom.
- Ensures connectivity to remote sites and smooth operation of distance learning classes.
- Reports hardware problems and failures to the Coordinator of IT Audio Visual Systems.
- Assists with on-campus events requiring AV support.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Basic knowledge and troubleshooting of audio-visual equipment.
- Introductory knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot video conferencing platforms (Polycom, Teams, Zoom).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Basic networking knowledge is a plus.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
Required Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with an institution of higher education preferred.
SCHEDULING:
Evening availability is required to accommodate the distance-learning schedule. Day and weekend availability may be required to support other on-campus events.
There are 2 positions available. Schedule varies but applicants must be available M-F 4:30-9:30 pm.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to lift and move up to a maximum of 50 lbs.
- The physical activity of this position includes but is not limited to: climbing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, pulling, lifting, grasping, twisting, and sitting.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations and traffic signals when driving.
This position supports information technology at Cecil College’s North East campus and may involve support for other locations and instructional sites as needed.
Based upon the budgeted hours of a position, contribution to the Maryland State Retirement Pension System may be required.
