The Role
Saildrone is growing and we are looking for a self-motivated dynamic individual to serve as a Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of financial reports, consolidating international subsidiaries, performing account reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, assisting with audit preparations, and performing other accounting duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Ensure all business transactions are recorded, including all disbursements and month end closing entries.
- Consolidate foreign subsidiaries, including month end elimination entries and foreign currency translation.
- Prepare journal entries for reclassifications, accruals, deferrals, and amortization entries to ensure and support a timely financial end close.
- Compile account reconciliations that support account ending balances for reporting periods, are concise, and accurate.
- Maintaining and reconciling amortization schedules
- Collaborating with internal departments to gather, analyze, and interpret relevant financial information.
- Performing audits on financial data to assure its accuracy and truthfulness.
- Ensuring that financial information complies with professional and regulatory GAAP standards.
- Aligning general ledger accounting practices to support budgeting and forecasting.
- Assisting in preparation of financial reports Performing monthly balance sheet, income statement and changes in financial position/budget variance analysis
- Performing account analysis to identify variances, trends, interpret financial impact, and opportunities for improvements in managing accounts and reporting.
- Contributing to the development of new or amended accounting systems, programs, and procedures.
- Assist with SOX risk assessments and scoping.
- Work with process owners to identify gaps in the current processes and internal controls.
- Provide interpretation and guidance to process owners regarding risks, key controls, and documentation requirements.
- Evaluate findings from internal or external auditors including identifying potential mitigating
- controls.
Required Skills and Experience
- Strong technical knowledge of GAAP accounting concepts and standards
- Analytical skills and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret large sets of financial data.
- Communication - direct, to the point, and respectful at the same time and a collaborative team player.
- Opinions - generally enjoy reflecting on different ideas and opinions and are relatively open-minded, consider different ideas before coming to a conclusion
- Organization - creates a structure with attention to detail and order that is easily adaptable to change leading to greater efficiency

Background
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Accounting/ Economics, or Business
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or CPA candidate preferred.
- 3+ years progressive experience in general ledger accounting or similar; Manufacturing industry experience strongly preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills; proficient with NetSuite; foreign consolidation experience
- The ability to work independently and be self-managing is a must.
Physical Requirements
- Work is performed on a computer and requires ability to operate a keyboard and other peripheral devices.
Location: This position is hybrid in Alameda, CA (Onsite 3 days per week required). Our waterfront office offers beautiful views of San Francisco Bay in always sunny Alameda.
