What you’ll be doing

The Sr. Director, Medicinal Chemistry leads a team that consists primarily of external resources (CROs), and reports to the CSO. This role requires a medicinal chemist with a strong innovative background in synthetic organic chemistry focused on novel cancer therapeutic targets. This role focuses on the operational aspect of all stages of our drug discovery programs, from target identification, interpretation of SAR, structure-based molecule design, compound optimization and candidate selection for all small molecule programs. The individual also plays a key role in generating intellectual property for the company's development programs, both for existing and new IP.

You will be responsible for…

• Key lead for medicinal chemistry efforts for oncology targets to clear decision points.
• Assist in the development of medicinal chemistry operations and strategy to execute the strategy
• Prioritize medicinal chemistry activities, managing external chemistry resources ensuring timeline adherence, appropriate resource allocation and project alignment to company goals.
• Support the design, planning and execution of multi-step syntheses of high-quality small molecules for candidate selection.
• Critically interpret structure activity relationships incorporating physicochemical properties and pharmacological data
• Possess a clear and effective communication style to disseminate project data and medicinal chemistry approach to focused on novel cancer therapeutic targets to the internal team and external collaborators.
• Establish and maintain productive relationships with colleagues in chemistry, biology, CMC and development
• Act as a key lead and coordinate patent strategy with outside counsel including reviewing and assisting in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications.
• Responsible for coordinating and reviewing search and clearance and opinions related to pharmaceutical development activities.
• Review and provide feedback on IP clauses in agreements and contracts as well as company publications that may contain company intellectual property. to protect company interests

What Knowledge & Experience you'll bring to us...

• Highly experienced chemist with PhD in Organic Chemistry with more than 8 years experience in pharmaceutical/biotech setting working in medicinal chemistry
• Proven track record of leadership in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery as demonstrated by a strong track record of scientific accomplishment in cross-functional teams
• Proven ability to manage timelines and resources to drive projects to key decision points and development advancement
• Strong synthetic chemistry and experience with structure-based drug design as applied to drug discovery programs
• Attention to detail and strong sense of urgency is essential, together with proven ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and team-focused environment
• Ability to travel (domestic and international) up to 10%
• Proven experience and track record of innovative Intellectual Property creation and protection
• Located in New York City Metro area preferred

The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location among other factors. Our full-time regular positions also include an annual performance-based bonus and long-term incentive units (equity) provided as part of our compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, depending on the level and position offered.
