This Fall, LCPS is recruiting a cohort of teacher residents for the LCPS Teacher Residency. This is an innovative and affordable pathway to a full-time teaching career in our community. Residents earn their Master’s Degree and Teaching Credential in just one year through the Alder Graduate School of Education, while joining a supportive, mentor-based program with an emphasis on social justice and equity. After the year of residency, graduates receive priority hiring as LCPS teachers.
TUITION
~$23,970 tuition (final tuition set in Sept. 2026 for the 2027-2028 graduating class)
BENEFITS
$47,500 stipend (Residents are not employees of the school)
$10,000 Golden State Teacher Grant (via either the state or Alder)
Additional funding for SPED candidates may be available
Up to $5,600 in federal grants
Alder tuition scholarships of up to $10,000
Up to $20,500 in federal financial loans

REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree completed by the end of June 2027
A grade point average (GPA) of 2.65 preferred, under 2.65 GPA should still apply
Eligible to work in the United States: U.S. citizen, DACA, or permanent residency

SUPERVISION:
All LCPS teacher residents are supervised by the Director of Teacher Residency for LCPS. Envision, and Education for Change.
TIME COMMITMENT:
This is a year-long program, including courses during summer 2027. Throughout the school year (10-month school year, 190 days) residents are required to attend courses one day per week and apprentice 4 days per week following school building hours of 8am-4pm M, Tu, Th, Fri and 8am-5pm on Wednesdays. Exact graduate school calendar to be shared upon acceptance.
LIVING STIPEND & EXPENSES:
Residents are classified as full-time students, not school employees. A living stipend of $47,500 with no LCPS funded health benefits is available to all residents. Tuition for Alder GSE is $23,970 for the Class of 27-28 and final tuition for Class of 27-28 will be set by September 2026. Most residents are eligible for federal grants and loans to cover some to all tuition costs. Tuition assistance scholarships will be awarded to some residents after assessing need and scholarship fund availability.
