High School Math Intervention Instructional Aide 

Lighthouse Community Charter School is looking for a High School Math Intervention Instructional Aide relentlessly committed to ensuring that traditionally underserved students of color achieve our mission of completing college and securing the career of choice.  Lighthouse educators believe that this important mission is not only attainable; it is essential to transforming our Oakland community. The role of the High School Math Intervention Instructional Aide is to provide small group, targeted skills based instruction to students who are not yet proficient in grade level math standards as well as push-in support and collaboration with core math teachers. The Math Intervention Instructional Aide will play a key role on our intervention team and within the math department. The Math Intervention Instructional Aide works collaboratively with classroom teachers and school leadership to ensure that the Lighthouse math intervention programs support all students.

Teach Math Support Skill Based Groups

  • Implement small group instruction and cycles of intervention/support for High School math students that utilize research-based interventions and instructional strategies and selected curricula aligned with the Response to Intervention (RtI) model for students who have been identified as below grade-level in mathematics.

  • Implement selected data-based math intervention instruction and progress monitoring tools that result in improved student mathematics achievement.

  • These responsibilities are both during the school day and during the Out of School Time Program.

Differentiation & Intervention

  • Support individual student needs through differentiation and intervention including some push-in support for individual or small groups of students, moving through multiple tiers of intervention to “layer on” supports for students who need them:

    • Tier 1 – Support teachers in providing small group instruction and individual student modifications. Facilitate small group instruction to support student skill development.  

    • Tier 2 – Participate in COST/RTI Team as needed and implement interventions to support students who are not progressing in math. Provide tailored support  on a push-in or pull-out basis as appropriate.  Facilitate small group instruction to support student skill development.  

    • Tier 3 – Monitor and report on growth; for students who are not progressing continue Tier 1 and 2 interventions and provide data to classroom teacher and Education Specialist to complete a recommendation for Special Education assessment.

Teacher Collaboration

  • Work with math teachers and math team to identify and track students needing intervention supports

  • Push in to math core classes to provide targeted intervention and support for individuals and small groups as needed

Assessment and Reporting

  • Support implementation of math screeners and progress monitoring tools to ensure student placement in skill based instructional groups.

Formative & Summative Assessments:  

  • Employ selected assessment strategies to monitor progress.

  • Collect and analyze multiple forms of assessment data to track student growth in mathematics.

Progress Reports and Report Cards

  • Keep a record of intervention students’ work and provide to classroom teacher and intervention team to inform ongoing assessment of student progress toward standards.

  • Regularly communicate with families, school administration, and other faculty student progress toward goals.

Whole Child/Family Communication

  • Consistently communicate student’s academic and character progress with families, both growth and needs on an informal and formal basis in conjunction with classroom teachers.

  • May lead a grade-level Crew (advisory), supporting students academic and socio-emotional needs through deliberate cultivation of a peer community that ensures all students are known well, as schedule allows.

Professional Learning Community & Collaboration

  • Work effectively as a member of multi-disciplinary teams to implement academic services for students in need of intervention.

  • Use common planning time and professional development time as scheduled to collaborate with classroom teachers to differentiate for and support students with specific learning needs; collaborate with Middle School Math teachers to improve intervention program; collaborate with K-12 staff and other interventionists as appropriate.

  • Comply with all school obligations, policies, and expectations, including abiding by all state and federal mandates in reporting sexual or physical abuse and neglect.

  • Exhibit the highest level of professionalism and urgency driven by understanding of our student and community needs.

Additional Duties, as assigned by Supervisor



  • B.A. or B.S. required

  • Experience teaching or tutoring secondary mathematics or math intervention for middle or high school students (Algebra 2, Trigonometry, PreCalculus). 

  • Knowledge of the CCSS in Mathematics, preferred

  • 2+ years successfully serving urban youth in an education setting (school, after school, tutoring program, summer school or program, etc.)

  • Experience working in a progressive school model a plus

  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred



This is a full-time 11-month salaried non-exempt role. 200-day work year for 11-month employees with 23 student-free days for professional learning and collaboration with colleagues and families Start date as soon as possible.

Common Building Hours: All teachers are expected to be present from 9:30am to 6:00pm daily with one for staff professional development.



This position reports to HS Assistant Principal.
