SHEQ Compliance Coordinator - Mining

Purpose of Position:

  • Maintain regulatory and legal compliance registers
  • Lead internal policy governance, document control, and process assurance
  • Coordinate cross-functional audits and compliance training
  • Support integrated reporting and risk governance
  • Ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, and industry standards
  • Prepare reports for senior leadership and external audits
  • Enhancing incident and non-conformance tracking
  • Supporting integrated management system (IMS) documentation and control

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Systems Management: Develop, maintain, and update SHEQ management systems and documentation (Safety Files, Procedures)
  • Compliance & Auditing: Conduct internal audits and site inspections to ensure compliance with legal regulations (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety Act) and internal standards
  • Risk Mitigation: Perform Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA) and ensure corrective actions are implemented
  • Incident Investigation: Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, identifying root causes and recommending preventative measures
  • Training & Induction: Coordinate and deliver SHEQ training, inductions for staff/contractors, and toolbox talks
  • Contractor Management: Manage contractors’ safety files to ensure they abide by company SHEQ standards
  • Reporting: Compile and track SHEQ Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for management review
  • Documenting and maintaining a training and skills matrix for all health and safety-related training

Knowledge and Experience - Required:

  • At least 2 years of proven Project Management experience within the Mining environment
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in SHEQ Management within the mining or heavy industries
  • Previous experience with Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) is essential
  • Strong ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 Implementation and internal auditing experience will be a definite advantage
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Applications
  • Incident / Accident investigations skill / experience
  • Root cause analysis and non-conformance management are essential

Knowledge and Experience - Desired:

  • Matric or Grade 12 / NQF 4 learning ability
  • Relevant qualifications in Safety, Health, and Environment (Degree, Diploma, SAMTRAC, NEBOSH)
  • Proven experience of at least 2(two) years in a similar SHEQ role
  • Strong knowledge of relevant SHEQ legislation and standards
  • Experience in conducting safety inspections, audits and investigations
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Ability to interpret information and formulate reports
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Own reliable transport with valid code 08 drivers’ license

Travel:

  • This position involves local travel and overseas travel to support Hexagon Mining’s projects and site establishments
