Sustainability Lead (Europe)

We are looking for an experienced sustainable built environment expert to drive sustainable and regenerative design outcomes in London and Paris across all our projects and sectors.
As a member of our global sustainability department and our ‘go-to’ sustainability specialist in the London studio, you will be working closely with our architectural design teams to ensure sustainable and regenerative design principles are embedded into the strategic planning, design and delivery of our projects as a first principle.
This role is pivotal in driving sustainable and regenerative design practices within our London and Paris studios. You will collaborate closely with design teams to enhance their strategies, and report on performance against sustainability targets to the Partner Group.
Primary Focus
- Collaborate with London and Paris design teams to develop and improve sustainable and regenerative design strategies.
- Report performance against sustainable and regenerative targets to the regional Partner Group to drive improved performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Support London and Paris design teams in delivering sustainable and regenerative designs:
- Proactively assist and advise teams in establishing progressive sustainable design goals for their projects.
- Support delivery through design reviews.
- Oversee a rolling audit of projects and regularly report against agreed sustainability/regenerative design frameworks and KPIs.
- Prepare project performance reports for practice leaders and Partners.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of actions to support our sustainability commitments and further develop our Practice’s sustainability strategy (e.g., net-zero carbon, health and well-being, and regenerative design).
- Develop a data collection, monitoring, and reporting infrastructure system across the practice.
- Stay up-to-date on developments in academic circles, industry, and regional policies related to environmental issues, and contribute to Grimshaw’s knowledge base.
- Stay well-versed on national and international environmental legislation and accords, and their implications for the built environment in London and Paris.
- Support the practice with capacity building by assisting in the development of learning and development programs.
- Support the maintenance of a certified ISO 14001 environmental management system.
- Act as the first point of contact for the Studio’s green initiatives.
- Promote the Practice’s expertise through engagement in conferences, industry groups, and thought leadership.
Secondary Focus
- Contribute to winning business.
- Support communication with staff and wider stakeholders.
- Ensure our procedures (ISO 14001) and policies are appropriate.
- Support relevant research initiatives.
Skills and Qualifications:
Required
- Ten years or more experience in related work (architecture, urban design, engineering and construction)
- Undergraduate degree in architecture or engineering-related field.
- Strong existing network with built environment industry and experience of working in either an advisory or client-side role.
- Personal commitment to sustainability and proven experience of leading change management programmes within an organisation.
- Strong communication skills
- Excellent project management skills
Desirable:
- Previous experience in Architectural Practice
- Masters degree in a related subject is desirable, e.g. sustainable architecture
- Accredited Professional according to at least one if not several existing sustainability certification schemes for buildings – e.g. LEED, BREEAM, Greenstar, WELL
