IT Systems Administrator

An expansive role, responsible for managing a healthy IT environment from first line support to technical configuration of server infrastructure.
The principal purpose of this position is to maintain the technical health, availability, performance, and security of Grimshaw’s IT infrastructure, ensuring staff remain as productive as possible. The role involves close cooperation with other technical departments (Design Technology, Computational Design, CGI, and Graphics); focus on cross-department dependencies and software lifecycle management, under the guidance of the Information Technology Lead.
The role holder will work alongside a small team of IT individuals within North America to facilitate the needs of the North American studios. The role holder is also expected to collaborate with other regional Systems Administrators to ensure that the configuration of Grimshaw infrastructure, policy and processes are aligned throughout the practice.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Efficient desktop support, responding and resolving user issues within agreed timeframes, escalating faults where appropriate.
- Deployment of applications, plug-ins and scripts.
- Day to day management of users, onboarding and offboarding staff, setting up telephone system, assigning licences, etc.
- Routine checks and setup of conference rooms; audio, video conferences, web conferences, teleconferences and events.
- Resolve printer issues, including toner replacements, basic fault finding and resolution.
- Control stock, ordering new supplies as appropriate.
- Assistance with desk moves to ensure hardware properly moved and cabling is correct.
- Assess helpdesk trends and suggest areas of improvement.
- Support of other corporate systems. Access to project management solution, digital image library, antivirus solution, project accounting system, intranet etc.
- Distribute and manage software updates and patches to ensure devices are up-to-date with the latest versions and security fixes.
- Install operating systems, applications, and configure device settings on new and existing endpoints according to company standards.
- Implement and enforce endpoint security policies, including antivirus, malware protection, and access controls, to mitigate security threats.
- Track and maintain an accurate inventory of all endpoint devices within the organization.
- Develop scripts to automate repetitive tasks related to endpoint management.
- Image PCs and deploy OS upgrades in alignment with Business Systems and Design Technology needs.
- Configure and monitor device performance and identify potential hardware or software issues.
- Document configuration changes and follow change control procedure.
- Remove assets no longer in production and maintain consistent records between endpoint administration tools.
- Organize repairs and hardware upgrades.
- Manage client-based backups via OneDrive.
- Management of Windows operating systems (Windows 10/11, Windows Server 2016+).
- Office365 Administration – licensing users, creating Teams channels, distribution groups and shared mailboxes etc.
- Intune administration - app deployment, configuration profiles, compliance policies, windows update rings etc.
- Experience supporting video conferencing systems (Zoom and Poly preferred).
- Administrating and upgrading VMware virtualization platform.
- Remote desktop support (Splashtop and Parsec preferred).
- Implementing changes via a change control process.
- Administration of Meraki Wi-Fi networks.
- Administration of Watchguard Firewalls.
- Administration of Aruba network switches.
- iOS, Android and Mac device configuration.
- Administration of consistent backup and archive processes (Nasuni).
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Three to four years of relevant experience in the field.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A qualified candidate should possess superior customer service skills with a cheerful and positive disposition. Responsible, confident and highly motivated. Have a strong ability to work independently and proactively.
- Excellent administrative and organizational skills are required. Ability to prioritize with a problem-solving mindset.
- Advanced Microsoft Windows 10/11 and Windows Server OS experience.
- Advanced knowledge of NTFS permissions and file shares.
- Advanced AV EDR experience (i.e. - Sophos central).
- Knowledge of PowerShell (scripting ability highly desired).
- Advanced active directory knowledge, group policy, DNS and DHCP, etc.
- Advanced Office365 Administration (Intune in a Hybrid environment).
- Intermediate Office365 Administration.
- Experience using software distribution solutions and MDM tools (PDQ, Intune).
- TCP/IP & Network support skills.
- Video conferencing support.
- Exposure to cloud based and cloud hybrid technologies (desirable).
- CAD applications exposure (desirable).
