Front-End Web Developer

Finalsite, the preferred website, communications, and marketing platform of 5,000+ schools worldwide, is seeking to hire an experienced Front-End Web Developer. The FED is responsible for coding responsive websites and building unique customized solutions in Sass/CSS and HTML for our school and education clients in close collaboration with designers and project managers. In this role, the FED must understand and work well within clearly defined project constraints, including client goals, accessibility guidelines, branding requirements, technical considerations, project budget, and timeline.

This is a full-time position in a motivating, supportive and fast-paced environment. Our company is headquartered in Glastonbury, Connecticut and both local and remote candidates will be considered.

The successful candidate will be a tech savvy, versatile problem solver that enjoys taking on a wide variety of challenges. The candidate should possess a good understanding of Content Management Systems, JavaScript/jQuery, HTML5 & CSS3 along with a commitment to maintaining high quality code across browsers and platforms including mobile and touchscreen devices. Other skills should include being comfortable in conversing about site architecture and content structure and proven success in producing complex homepage and lower tier designs and layouts.


  • Produce responsive websites from supplied design files in Finalsite’s content management system using standardized HTML markup and CSS definitions and structures
  • Enter and format raw content supplied by clients
  • Optimize image and graphic assets for site speed
  • Work closely with designers and project managers to ensure proposed designs can be completed within project scope and on time
  • Work within the Finalsite platform to maintain and post content, data, images and files
  • Make coding fixes, changes, and additions to existing/live sites with attention to detail and sensitivity to the goals and priorities of client site owners
  • Test sites across browsers, platforms, and devices to identify and fix scripting and display errors in partnership with QA team members
  • Work closely with members from other teams and explain technical concepts to non-technical clientele on occasion
  • Work some overtime if necessary to achieve project deliverables

Qualifications, Skills and Competencies:

  • 2-4 years experience in front-end web development
  • Proficiency converting design concepts into page templates within a Content Management System
  • Proficiency in hand-coding HTML, CSS, & JavaScript
  • Experience with responsive web design
  • Experience with coding to accessibility requirements as outlined by WCAG
  • Strong background in JavaScript/jQuery preferred
  • Experience with Sketch and Adobe Photoshop
  • Experience in the following technologies is a plus: Sass, AJAX, JSON, Grunt/Gulp/webpack, web fonts, font icons
  • Familiarity with using Git for source code control
  • An eye for design & interest in visual and/or interaction design
  • Ability to work effectively under deadlines in a fast paced environment with multiple projects and shifting priorities
  • Familiarity with usability and User Experience design
