Position Overview

The Health Information Specialist will ensure the quality of medical/health records by verifying their completeness, accuracy, and proper entry into computer systems. This role involves using computer applications to assemble and analyze patient data for improving patient care or controlling costs. The administrator will participate in the release and access of information by authorized entities, staff, and patients, and assist insurance companies by sending documentation for HEDIS and metric reviews. Additionally, the Health Information Administrator will oversee referral processes and be responsible for task management of medical record bins from the electronic medical record, including fax inbound, HEALTHeLINK, and other interface bins. They will also assist leadership with research and review of chart documentation for audits and process improvement and create and upload required HIPAA/Consent and other HIM forms into the EMR for patient records and medical staff. Other duties include value-based tracking and chart audits, and the development of HIM policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Scanning documents using Medent EMR system.
  • Handling 200+ incoming faxes daily.
  • Answering incoming calls on multi-line phone system.
  • Contacting patients and facilities for records.
  • Handling schedule prep for multiple providers.
  • Monitoring and processing transcription transmissions, including corrections of demographic information, chart analysis, adding Physician deficiencies, and sorting and mailing of confidential copies.
  • Record pickup, handling requests for patient care related release of information, handling of internal and external telephone calls to the department, and front desk coverage.
  • Leadership: The Health Information Administrator will contribute to defining and executing strategies and solutions to create business value in care management within Care Medical Practice PLLC.
  • Strategy: The Health Information Administrator will support the establishment of a business strategy and roadmap to: (1) improve outcomes for Care Medical members; (2) enhance the efficacy of other Care Medical business divisions; and (3) develop and deliver external market opportunities for Care Medical products and services. In supporting the business strategy, the Health Information Administrator will contribute to defining and innovating sustainable revenue models to drive the profitability of the Company.
  • Collaboration: The Health Information Administrator will ensure that nursing capabilities form a cohesive offering, including by working closely with other business divisions to learn their needs, internalize their knowledge, and define solutions to achieve the business objectives of Care Medical Practice PLLC.
  • Knowledge: The Health Information Administrator will provide subject matter expertise in nursing solutions, including determining and recommended approaches for nursing, solution deployment, and performance evaluation.
  • Culture: The Health Information Administrator is accountable for creating a productive, collaborative, safe, and inclusive work environment for the nursing team and as part of the larger Company.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate degree from an HIM Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics & Information Management Education (CAHIM). RHIT Certificate preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in HIM. Medent EMR experience is required, and Medent experience is preferable.

The working environment and physical requirements of the job include:

Practice-based, with daily In-office work. The job is performed indoors in a traditional office setting with air conditioning, artificial light, and an open workspace.

In this position you will need to communicate with customers, vendors, management, and other co-workers in person and over devices, sometimes with people who are agitated. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential. Sitting for extended periods is common. Must be able to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents. Lifting up to 10 lbs. occasionally may be required. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computer terminals, calculators, copiers, and FAX machines. Good reasoning ability is important. Able to understand and utilize management reports, memos, and other documents to conduct business.
