Position Overview

This position reports to the Senior Director of Clinical Informatics. The Clinical Informatics Analyst analyzes patient and clinical operations data helping to identify ways to improve the quality of care and patient experience. Key Responsibilities

The Clinical Informatics Analyst will have the following responsibilities:

  • Build and review data reports as assigned and identify areas for improvement.
  • Use systems to help improve workflow and patient care.
  • Maintain changes to referential data, across clinical applications assigned.
  • Identify and fix issues with systems and programs.
  • Interpret, modify, analyze and design clinical systems, data and information.
  • Research patient data across multiple applications to resolve discrepancies and/or improve workflow.
  • Support educational and clinical services programs, support end-user training.
  • Draft and present clinical informatics presentations as requested.
  • Monitor system security and reliability.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • As directed, implement applications, tools, and processes that assist clinicians with the management of data in patient care and the provision of health care.
  • Assist with application implementation and system customization including the development of alerts/hard stops, data integration, order generation, automation of document entry and enforcement of adherence to workflows.
  • Provide technical support, diagnosis of application errors and troubleshooting with system issues.
  • Facilitate clinical content team – work with physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other health care professionals to evaluate current EMR functionality and develop future applications by building consensus and using efficient decision-making processes.
  • Recommend innovative ideas, processes, and/or procedures for enhancements, additions, and modifications to improve existing systems and protocols
  • Assist with the configuration and setup of new users within the clinical systems as they relate to the EHR.
  • Serve as a resource person for daily operational issues within the electronic health record.
  • Work with other members of the team to implement solutions to system related problems to minimize operational impact.
  • Monitor and report quality data as related to the EHR and clinical software applications.
  • Create secure backup files for protected data.

Required Qualifications

The Clinical Informatics Analyst should have the following qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, healthcare administration, business administration, finance or related field.
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of 2 years healthcare informatics experience with in-depth understanding of the healthcare IT systems, including EHRs clinical decision support systems, and data analytics platforms.
    • Proficient with programming languages.
    • Ability to compile, code and categorize, or verify information/data.
    • Exposure to database management and basics of network security.
    • Experience with clinical workflows and healthcare practices including a knowledge of medical terminology, clinical guidelines and patient care protocols.
    • Experienced in clinical systems implementations and support including system configuration, custom development, maintenance and software upgrades
    • Proven analytical skills interpreting data and developing insights to improve patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
    • Detail oriented and capable of exploring innovative solutions to solve complex problems and address issues using a combination of delivered and custom-developed tools.
  • Communication:
    • Effective communication skills including the ability to translate technical information into understandable terms for non-technical audiences.
  • Relationships:
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and legal information.
    • Ability to complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner.

The working environment and physical requirements of the job include:

In-office work (minimum three days per week) is performed indoors in a traditional office setting with conditioned air, artificial light, and an open workspace.

In this position you will need an to communicate with customers, vendors, management, and other co-workers in person and over devices, sometimes with people who are agitated. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential. Sitting for extended periods is common. Must be able to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents. Lifting of up to 10 lbs. occasionally may be required. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computer terminals, calculator, copiers, and FAX machines. Good reasoning ability is important. Able to understand and utilize management reports, memos, and other documents to conduct business.
