Position Overview

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a strategic and operational leader responsible for the financial health, scalability, and long-term value creation of the organization. Reporting to the CEO, the CFO partners closely with the executive leadership team, Board, and investors to guide business strategy, optimize performance, and ensure financial sustainability in a complex, risk-based healthcare environment.

This leader combines deep financial expertise, healthcare industry knowledge, and entrepreneurial drive to build and scale a high-performing finance function. The CFO plays a critical role in shaping growth strategy, managing capital, and aligning financial performance with clinical, operational, and community impact goals.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Growth Leadership

  • Partner with the CEO and executive team to shape and execute enterprise strategy
  • Lead capital strategy, including equity and debt fundraising, investor relations, and financial storytelling
  • Evaluate and execute strategic initiatives including M&A, joint ventures, and partnerships
  • Drive business model optimization through deep understanding of unit economics, reimbursement, and margin levers
  • Prepare the organization for future liquidity events (e.g., acquisition, recapitalization, IPO)

Financial Stewardship & Performance

  • Oversee all aspects of financial management including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow
  • Lead FP&A with robust forecasting, scenario planning, and KPI-driven performance management
  • Ensure disciplined cash management, burn rate control, and alignment with growth milestones
  • Translate financial performance into actionable insights and strategic recommendations
  • Establish processes to identify and close performance gaps

Healthcare Financials & Compliance

  • Provide oversight and insight into revenue cycle management (billing, coding, collections, payer mix)
  • Navigate reimbursement models including fee-for-service and value-based care (Medicare, Medicaid, CMS)
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations (HIPAA, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute)
  • Partner with clinical and operational leaders to align financial, quality, and care delivery outcomes
  • Manage financial risk associated with value-based and risk-bearing models

Systems, Data & Infrastructure

  • Build and scale financial systems, including ERP and reporting platforms
  • Develop data-driven decision-making capabilities across the enterprise
  • Drive automation and process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy
  • Establish scalable financial infrastructure to support rapid growth
  • Leverage AI capabilities to drive efficiency and effectiveness within all Financial Management functions.

Governance, Risk & Compliance

  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls and audit readiness
  • Oversee legal and contractual financial elements including payer and vendor agreements
  • Ensure ethical, transparent, and compliant financial practices
  • Represent the organization with regulators, partners, and external stakeholders

Investor & Board Engagement

  • Lead Board reporting with clear, concise, and insight-driven communication
  • Build trust with investors through transparency and performance delivery
  • Support valuation strategy and capital market readiness

Leadership & Team Building

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing finance organization (FP&A, accounting, actuarial, revenue cycle, healthcare economics)
  • Act as a strategic partner across all functions including operations, clinical, and business development
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Lead through change in a fast-paced, high-growth environment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field required; MBA and/or CPA preferred
  • 15+ years of progressive financial leadership experience
  • 10+ years in healthcare, ideally in value-based care or risk-based models
  • Experience in high-growth, startup, or private equity-backed services company strongly preferred
  • Expert proficiency in technology, including value maximization of NetSuite financial platform
  • Deep expertise in FP&A, capital strategy, and financial operations
  • Strong understanding of reimbursement, regulatory environment, and care delivery economics combined with non-healthcare experience in a high-growth environment

Total Compensation Package

This role is primarily performed in a professional office environment with standard office equipment. The position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods of time. Frequent use of a computer, including typing, viewing screens, and utilizing standard software applications, is required. The individual must be able to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including in person, via video conferencing, and by telephone, sometimes with people who are agitated. Occasional movement within an office environment is required, including moving between meetings or collaborative workspaces. The ability to review, interpret, and prepare detailed financial documents, reports, and data. May occasionally need to lift and/or move items up to 7 pounds (e.g., files, laptops, office materials). The role requires occasional travel, including the ability to navigate airports, attend off-site meetings, and participate in external events. The position involves working under time constraints and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
