About Us:

Founded in 1968 to meet the post-secondary and continuing education needs of Cecil County residents, Cecil College has been serving the community and shaping its future for more than 50 years. The College is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the governor. The College’s fifth president, Dr. Mary Way Bolt, reports directly to the Board of Trustees.

Cecil College is centrally located in Maryland’s most northeastern county, just one half mile from Interstate 95. It is easily accessible from Philadelphia and Baltimore, as well as from Wilmington, Delaware.

With a diverse student population, Cecil College enrolls approximately 2,500 credit students and 3,400 non-credit students. Cecil offers associate degrees, certificate programs and non-credit classes. Cecil offers a variety of associate degree and certificate programs.

General Duties:

The Financial Aid Office Assistant greets and assists students and their families by answering inquiries related to all facets of the financial aid application process and the status of students’ financial aid records. Provides related clerical support to assist in daily operations and departmental efficiency including answering telephones, relaying messages, scheduling appointments, and digital imaging/file creation. Assist office staff with tasks as needed especially during peak processing time. Respond to inquiries from enrolled and prospective student regarding financial aid programs including foundation scholarships, MD State and Federal programs, and veteran’s educational benefits. Manage mail and log in confidential documents in support of timely processing of aid application. Replenish lobby financial aid forms and materials, as needed. Must maintain confidentiality, good judgment, and discretion, and follow applicable federal, state, and college regulations and practices. Increase financial aid knowledge through on-line and on-campus educational opportunities. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma required; associate’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in higher education, preferably in financial aid is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experiences working on a team and relating effectively with student, staff, and the general public in a fast-pasted customer service environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and be detailed oriented.
  • Proficiency working with student databases.
  • Evidence of strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Requires an exceptional degree of accuracy and possession of analytic skills.
  • Work schedule may vary during critical periods.
  • This position is not eligible for telework.

Hours:

20-25 hours per week Mon-Fri; days and evenings between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. with some weekends during peak periods (hours vary by semester)

Based upon the budgeted hours of a position, contribution to the Maryland State Retirement Pension System may be required.
