Medical Science Liaison - East Region

Job Description


The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) for Caldera Medical is a field-based member of the Caldera Sales team. In this newly created role, the MSL is responsible for developing, coordinating and assuring implementation of corporate, scientific and clinical strategies for thought leaders within academic, clinical and health care organizations.  In addition, the MSL is responsible for establishing and maintaining clinical/scientific relationships with medical professionals, researchers, coordinators and other members of the scientific community.  The MSL will also participate in high level training sessions, medical congresses supporting with provision of scientific/medical information, give clinical and scientific presentations as well as participate in sponsored scientific symposia.

The Position:

  • Identify Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), establish and maintain scientific relationships with KOLs to build awareness and ensure safe and effective use of Caldera Medical products.

  • Work with KOLs to identify voice of the customer (VOC) topics of interest to the medical community, identify scientific interests and provide scientific support in alignment with strategic plans.

  • Serve as primary Medical Affairs contact with key academic and community based medical centers coordinating with Regional Managers and Sales Representatives to help identify potential key medical leaders within specific medical disciplines.

  • Act as primary liaison to investigators interested in developing and performing investigator driven research proposals in support of strategically aligned objectives captured in Caldera Medical strategic plans.

  • Provide product advocacy through facilitating literature searches, slide creation, presentations to various external customers.

  • Present approved scientific data to Healthcare providers/GPOs in both group and one-on-one settings in accordance with company policies, applicable laws, regulations and ethical standards.

  • Identify and effectively communicate new opportunities/threats that have impact on the product portfolio.

  • Maintain clinical, scientific, and technical expertise in specific therapeutic area, and in-depth and up to date knowledge of products across the Caldera and competitor portfolios.

  • Participate in clinical/scientific training of sales team members and other Caldera Functional representatives as allowed by Federal/State Laws and Caldera adopted Code of Ethics.

  • Support the clinical organization to enhance patient enrollment in Caldera sponsored clinical registries.

  • Provide scientific support at medical information exhibits at medical conferences and meetings.

  • Provide support to the development, planning and management of the Publication Strategy within Caldera.

  • Train and mentor new team members as appropriate.

The Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related scientific field.Advanced scientific degree (PharmD, PhD, OR Registered Nurse) or equivalent experience is preferred.

  • At least two years of work experience in a clinical setting with working knowledge of Surgical Products.

  • At least two years of work experience communicating medical information to internal/external health sources (e.g sales force, outside health professions, public, and the federal government.

  • Proven experience must include thought leader development, clinical presentations and medical education as well as experience in forming strong strategic alliances with business partners and colleagues and an understanding of the Clinical and Regulatory requirements in a field-based medical organization.

  • Demonstrated excellence in leadership, interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Must be able to work independently and within groups.

  • Must be able to travel up to 80% of the time (4 days a week).

  • Excellent working knowledge of the therapeutic area to be supported is highly preferred.
