About the role:

This role will support many facets of the business requirements associated with the Facilities and Engineering Department supporting the South San Francisco locations. This role provides technical support for the R&D and QC facilities. Primary duties are to maintain a state-of-the-art facility, that includes utility, electrical and mechanical infrastructure across three buildings. In addition to facilities oversight, the Senior Maintenance Technician / Supervisor will be accountable for staff ensuring a compliant state with regards to our maintenance programs/requirements as well as work with global Engineering and Project teams for larger scope support related to the facility’s sustained growth and functionality.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Maintain a safe work environment; work in a safe manner following all safety SOP’s and wear Personal Protective Equipment as required
  2. Equipment owner for HVAC, utilities, electrical, fire/life safety systems, building management system, and other systems as assigned
  3. Responsible for maintenance of systems owned as well as troubleshooting of issues encountered in the facility related to these systems. Lead planning and execution of maintenance activities with internal and external partners. Provide technical support as needed
  4. Collaborate with Lab, Asset Management, Calibration, Facilities and Engineering team members required to sustain functionality of their areas. Implement solutions to meet these needs
  5. Ensure all labs and lab personnel are supported to meet business needs, including lab gasses, preventive maintenance, equipment service contracts, calibration, and safety equipment
  6. Identify equipment specific best practices and perform gap analysis for continuous improvement
  7. Lead and/or support small projects as required
  8. Maintain accuracy of facility drawings as related to systems overseen
  9. Support the creation of SOP’s, Work Instructions, Safety documents and other policies as appropriate
  10. Support/lead commissioning and qualification requirements and documentation on facilities systems
  11. Support EHS initiatives related to mechanical systems and utilities on safety and sustainability initiatives
  12. Ensure that weekly rounds of mechanical systems are performed and documented
  13. Maintain accurate records keeping equipment and systems cGMP/compliant
  14. Review and approve completed PM tasks and work orders for completeness, timeliness, and accuracy
  15. Execute small projects including scope creations and management, timelines, budgets, compliance and close out deliverables
  16. Support compliance requirements such as change control, deviations and CAPA’s
  17. Follow instructions to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies including FDA, CA FDB, OSHA, DOH, EPA, Fire Department, city audits, Health Department, etc
  18. May be required to be on call 24/7 to provide telephone assistance as well as emergency response to the facility
  19. Follow all mandated training requirements
  20. Ability to work safely in an environment containing hazardous chemicals, high and low temperature liquids, high pressure liquids and gasses, steam, and moving machinery
  21. Maintains effective ongoing customer relations and acts as point of contact to customer at the site level for operational issues
  22. Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements & Experience:

  1. High School diploma/relevant experience required with at least 5-8 years of maintenance experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical company
  2. Certified maintenance professional or college graduate preferred
  3. Demonstrated understanding of systems needed to manage a facility such as: HVAC, electrical, process systems, plumbing/piping, general maintenance, pest management, both interior and exterior
  4. Ability to read and understand electrical, mechanical and pneumatic drawings and equipment manuals Computerized maintenance management software (CMMS) experience preferred
  5. Understanding of mechanical/ electrical/ computer/ PLC systems
  6. Experience with regulated environments and quality systems
  7. Excellent organizational skills and an ability to prioritize effectively to deliver results within reasonably established timelines
  8. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  9. Strong interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication are essential in this collaborative work environment
  10. Excellent attention to detail and documentation.MS Office (Word, Power Point and Excel) proficiency
  11. Valid CA driver’s license and ability to be covered by the company’s vehicle insurance policy
  12. Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull 50 lb. of equipment or supplies.
