About Allogene:

Allogene Therapeutics, with headquarters in South San Francisco, is a clinical-stage biotechnology company pioneering the development of allogeneic chimeric antigen receptor T cell (AlloCAR T) products for cancer and autoimmune disease. Led by a management team with significant experience in cell therapy, Allogene is developing a pipeline of “off-the-shelf” CAR T cell product candidates with the goal of delivering readily available cell therapy on-demand, more reliably, and at greater scale to more patients.


About the role:

Allogene is seeking a Director of Accounting to be responsible for the general and transactional accounting activities, the financial close process, accounting operations areas, and the related internal controls associated with the accounting activities. The ideal candidate will have extensive operational experience in SOX 404(b) environment, leading and motivating experienced and junior staff, project management, and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Hands-on ownership of accounting close activities to ensure that all recorded transactions (including journal entries) and all GL accounts are properly reconciled
  • Primary owner of understanding GL impact from third-party providers, modules and bolt-on application interfaces with the Company’s ERP, SAP
  • Oversee treasury accounting and reconciliation, including review of the operation banking reconciliation
  • Lead the team in the recognition of capitalized assets, including fixed assets and various non-clinical prepaid and other assets
  • Ensure the accuracy and adequacy of various non-clinical liabilities, including accounts payable and accrued expenses, accrued compensation and related expenses, and other liabilities
  • Able to identify, optimize and automate accounting processes and drive efficient and streamlined close process
  • Support SEC filings (10Q, 10K, 8-K, Proxy), including preparation of financial statements and assisting with disclosures as needed
  • Design SOX controls as needed and perform SOX controls as assigned
  • Work with Business Systems on system design, implementation, and enhancement
  • Recruit, manage and develop a high-performing general accounting team


Position Requirements & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field and CPA required with at least 8 years of experience with at least 3 years of experience in auditing (preferably in a Big 4 accounting firm)
  • Ability to grow, manage and develop a diverse accounting team in a dynamic environment
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite tools and ERP systems, specifically SAP
  • Excellent organizational skills and an ability to prioritize effectively to deliver results within aggressive timelines with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, small company environment with minimal direction and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication are essential in this collaborative work environment
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.
