Volunteers of America of Greater Los Angeles is a large, national not-for-profit organization founded in 1896.  We provide a variety of social services to Los Angeles area communities such as Head Start programs, Upward Bound college prep programs, veterans’ services, homeless shelters, low-income housing program as well as drug and alcohol rehabilitation.  Learn more at www.voala.org.


We are seeking grant writers who are familiar with the grant application process with various government agencies including, but not limited to, Department of Health and Human Services, National Institutes of Health, Administration for Children and Families, and Department of Education.  A Grant Writer will:
  • Evaluate government grant opportunities from a variety of funding agencies (see above)
  • Assess grant feasibility and strategic fit of grant project for VOALA
  • Coordinate with various program staff to get information needed for grant application; write grant application narratives
  • Coordinate successful submission of grants over online systems
  • May also coordinate with funding agencies and/or attend industry conferences to assess emerging grant opportunities

May be full-time, part-time or on a consultant basis


  • Minimum of 3+ years of grant writing experience; proven ability to win successful grant contracts
  • Experience with grant writing and/contracting with governmental granting agencies
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Understanding of service delivery of various social services for youth, families, education and/or health services required
