Zen Compound develops, owns & operates the acclaimed Temple Nightclub & Event Venue, ECO-SYSTM Coworking, Mirus Art Gallery, and Hive Coffee Bar, located at 540 Howard Street in the heart of the SOMA district of San Francisco.

We have recently opened the Hive Coffee Bar and are currently hiring a Restaurant Manager to lead our team. The Hive Restaurant Manager reports directly to the Temple General Manager.

Hive Coffee Bar is a one-of-a-kind Cafe serving unique breakfast, lunch and happy hour eats. This is combined with an extensive coffee program serving Counter Culture Coffee with baristas that have the highest level of training in the industry. In addition, our signature cocktails blend both savory and sweet flavors with infused alcohols, for a delicious and refreshing beverage, with a twist.

As part of the Zen Compound team, everything you do will be in the interest of providing an excellent hospitality experience to our customers while continuously growing a customer base and increasing profitability. Everything.

About you:

You are this person if you love food and coffee, love talking about food and coffee, love making food and coffee and are always excited to engage customers in their exploration of food and coffee. You’re an early riser and enjoy starting work early in the morning. You delight in making an excellent dining experience and are full of ideas for how to grow a restaurant customer base. You are a whiz with numbers and rule a P&L with a tight fist. You are an intuitive leader with excellent communication skills.

Your days will be filled with:

  • Putting on your superhero cape, diving into each day with a smile on your face, switching gears on a moment’s notice and making people’s days a little brighter

  • Leading by example and being a role model for the standards and behaviors consistent with Hive’s core values and culture.

  • Proactively attracting, identifying, and hiring team members that embody the Hive profile and have the ability to grow within the organization.

  • Successfully and consistently communicating team wins, priorities, best practices and operational changes to deliver brilliant execution.

  • Connecting with the local community by designing and executing Hive’s marketing and community involvement initiatives.

  • Serving as a role model for high quality, hands on, floor management - including effective deployment of labor to maximize throughput.

  • Delivering store sales and financial objectives by removing any barriers to success.

  • Scheduling daily labor requirements that meet the needs of the business and provide great customer service experiences

  • Ensuring that food safety and security standards are met and adhered to consistently.

  • Maintaining food and coffee service and production levels by leading strong BOH and FOH execution.

  • Addressing performance issues quickly and respectfully by coaching, counseling, and managing any conflicts.

  • Contributing ideas, thoughts, and solutions that result in increased productivity, higher retention, and improved operations.

  • Acting as brand ambassador, understanding the Hive brand differentiator in the marketplace and the unique value proposition and convey this to all staff, potential customers and potential partners

  • 5+ ears managing a restaurant with a proven record of growth and financial success.

  • You’re always on point, nothing gets past you, yet you’re discreet and keep confidences when required

  • You have a high emotional IQ and can communicate well both verbally and in writing

  • You’re punctual, professional, thorough, and entrepreneurial; you’re a quick learning self-starter that works well in a fast-paced, startup environment

  • You’re adaptable and innovative, you own your mistakes and move on

  • You’re a hard worker, humble and prefer to share triumphs rather than bask in the limelight

  • You’re a perfectionist, always striving towards greatness, yet you don’t let your perfectionism stop you from continuous progress

  • You’re collaborative and engaging and like to work as a team, you’re also independent and get the job done. No matter what

  • You know how to use a computer, and operate/troubleshoot most POS systems

  • You constantly strive to increase your level of expertise and knowledge and are willing to accept ongoing training opportunities

  • You are able to lift and carry weighing a minimum of 50 pounds in a busy, crowded environment

  • You are physically able to walk and stand without assistance on varied surfaces for an extended period of time

  • You will meet and maintain established venue grooming standards.

  • You will maintain a clean and safe working environment as outlined by the State of California Department of Health

  • Must be fluent in the English language, both written and oral.  Multilingual Spanish skills are a plus

  • Must possess a health card

 

This is a full-time job, and you may be asked to work evenings or weekends when circumstances require it. Compensation is set at $50,000 per year and we offer great perks + benefits for full-time employees.
