Director of Business Development

 

The Director of Business Development is responsible for identifying and developing partnership opportunities to help Wine.com acquire new customers.  Responsibilities include identifying target vertical markets and companies, developing partnership strategies and programs, evaluating potential partners, estimating potential revenue and customers, negotiating partnership deals and terms, and ongoing account management to achieve customer and revenue goals. 

 

Successful candidates will have a strong track record of building strategic partnerships along with excellent communication, relationship management, and interpersonal skills.  The position will work closely with the wine.com senior management team to engage and assess potential partnerships.

Typical responsibilities:

  • Identify target markets and companies.  Develop partnership strategies.  Evaluate potential of online, offline, and mobile opportunities in terms of new customers and revenue. 
  • Initiate discussions with potential partners across categories like food, wine, travel, and entertainment. 
  • Negotiate deals and terms.  Work with senior management team and in-house counsel on partnership structure and business terms. 
  • Manage partnership implementation and timelines.  Collaborate with marketing, product, engineering, finance, legal, and operations as necessary to implement partnerships. 
  • Provide ongoing account management to build win-win partnerships that drive meaningful new customers and revenue.  Develop partnership scorecards, lead quarterly evaluations, refine and improve programs to achieve goals. 

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of business development and partner marketing experience.
  • Proven track record of building strategic partnerships.
  • Strong strategic thinking and business skills.  Ability to forecast key metrics like traffic, conversion rates, new customers, revenue, and margins. 
  • Excellent communication, relationship management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with others in an entrepreneurial, team oriented environment.
  • Knowledge of wine a plus.
  • BS/BA required, MBA desired.
