Platform Architect (NY)

As a Watermark Platform Architect, you will be collaborating with Enterprise Architects, Infrastructure Leads, Product Owners, and Engineering Team Leads.  With these stakeholders, you will facilitate the design and implementation of various APIs, services and modules that will be leveraged by internal teams and external clients.


  • Interact with Product Owners to understand product vision, features, and initiatives in order to facilitate effective architectural models/designs/integrations.

  • Monitor and oversee the evolution of product architecture and work closely with Engineering teams in order to oversee/facilitate/enforce architectural designs

  • Collaborate and communicate frequently with Enterprise Architect, Infrastructure Leads, Security Engineers and Engineering Team Leads.

  • Design and implement robust platform services that will be leveraged by teams using various technology stacks and span geographic locations around the world.

  • Contribute to robust, well-documented APIs and shared services.

  • Stay up to date on current technology trends and security practices.  Ensure products are secure and scalable. 

  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to developers and engineers.



  • Senior-level programming experience;  Familiarity with a broad range of languages and technologies (Elixir; Elm; JavaScript; PostgreSQL C#; MSSQL; NodeJS; CI/CD tools, etc)

  • OOP principles; functional programming fundamentals

  • Excellent technical writing, documentation, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to compare and contrast various technical solutions and provide solid reasoning for technical decisions.

  • Experience with software-as-a-service, microservice architecture, containerization

Desired Experience

  • Functional Programming experience; Elm/Elixir/Phoenix experience

  • Experience with Data storage technologies: RDBMS, Column Store, and Document

  • Continuous integration/Continuous deployment tools and practices

  • Cloud experience (AWS)

  • Experience in higher ed technology, LMS, SIS, etc
