Platform Architect

Job Description

Watermark is building the market’s leading higher education software suite and establishing a new category called Educational Intelligence.  Watermark’s new product vision is a convergence of various disparate point solutions that have to date been required to serve the needs of universities.   Our diverse team of technologists, educators, and product professionals share a passion for building software that impacts education by helping institutions identify ways of improvement in their curriculum, their faculty, and in delivering quality learning to engage and retain students.


As a Watermark Platform Architect, you will be collaborating with Enterprise Architects, Infrastructure Leads, Product Owners, and Engineering Team Leads.  With these stakeholders, facilitate the design and implementation of various APIs, and services that will be leveraged by internal teams, and external clients.


Responsibilities

  • Work with Product Owners to understand upcoming features, and initiatives.  Use this understanding to design services, and plan integration work.

  • Design and build APIs, and services that will be consumed by internal teams, and clients.  For example: single sign on, file storage, reporting, dashboarding, 3rd party integrations

  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architect, Infrastructure Leads, Product Owners, and Engineering Team Leads.

  • Design and implement robust platform services that will be leveraged by teams using various technology stacks, and span geographic locations around the world.

  • Provide internal teams with robust, and well documented APIs and shared services.

  • Provide external clients with robust, and well documented APIs, and shared services.

  • Stay up to date on current technology trends, and security practices.  Ensure products are secure, and scalable. 

  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to developers and engineers.


Required Experience & Abilities

  • Senior-level experience in an OOP or Functional programming language(s)

    Experience with

    • Data storage technologies: RDBMS, Column Store, and Document

  • Excellent technical writing, documentation, and presentation skills.
  • Convey technical ideas to product owners, and executives.
  • Keep up to date on current technologies.
  • Learn new concepts and technologies quickly.
  • Ability to compare and contrast various technical solutions, and provide solid reasoning for technical decisions.



Desired Experience & Abilities

  • Experience with

    • AWS or other cloud providers

    • Message brokers such as JMS, RabbitMQ, Kafka

  • Design and implementation SaaS solutions that require: 

    • high up-time

    • high availability

    • load balancing

    • multitenancy

  • Develop, deploy, and maintain cloud native systems.

  • Data Integration between many separate systems.

  • Work with teams across multiple time zones in an agile environment.
