Front End Developer

Engineering | New York, NY | Full Time

Job Description

The Front End Engineer works as part of a team to build a library of web components for use by our Watermark Engineering teams to increase efficiency and help to maintain visual and functional consistency throughout the application.

Front End Engineers work alongside our Full-stack Engineers, and coordinate closely with User Interface Designers and User Experience Designers. In addition to having excellent technical coding abilities, this position also requires excellent communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop user-facing web components based on specifications from User Experience Designers

  • Determine the structure and the user properties of web components

  • Maintain visual consistency throughout the application

  • Ensure user experience and accessibility are key considerations

  • Document the functionality and usage of the web components in the library

  • Collaborate with team members in an Agile environment

  • Ensure the application is optimized for devices of varying sizes

  • Execute on visual designs received from User Interface Designers

  • Build components that are easy to implement by Full-stack Engineers and other Front End Engineers

  • Optimize the application for maximum speed and scalability

  • Implement the components in an Elm codebase

Required Skills:

  • Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

  • Experience with JavaScript frameworks such as React

  • Understanding of key design principles

  • Knowledge of cross-browser compatibility issues

  • Knowledge of interacting with API endpoints to render data on the front end

  • Experience with responsive design

  • Great problem solving skills

  • Excellent verbal communication skills

  • Good interpersonal skills

Nice to Have:

  • Understanding of accessibility requirements is a plus

  • Experience developing in an Agile environment is a plus

  • Experience with graphic design applications such as Adobe Illustrator
