Database Administrator (DBA)

Watermark Insights is looking for an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team and deliver exceptional service to our customers. The DBA is expected to collaborate with development teams in designing and delivering new features while ensuring the databases in production are efficient, highly available, and performing smoothly. The DBA will also work closely with Dev Ops and Infrastructure engineers to create and maintain databases and backup processes.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Create, troubleshoot and optimize SQL queries and reports
Analyze execution plans for performance improvements
Contribute to architecting the data tier with other engineers for high availability and scalability
Respond effectively to customer impacting incidents
Recommend improvements in the reporting and batch processing code
Engage in agile ceremonies with other engineers
Collaborate with other software engineers to create optimized SQL code
Minimize database downtime associated with system maintenance and feature releases
Provide proactive and reactive data management support and training to users
Lead documentation of database policies, procedures and standards
Perform tests and evaluations to safeguard data security, privacy and integrity
Deploy and maintain database performance monitoring tools
Desired Experience:
- BS Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related technical field
6+ years of Database Administration experience with administering and supporting multiple relational databases in customer facing products with high performance and availability in both on prem and cloud environments
Thorough knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, encryption, and integrity
Familiarity with database design, documentation and coding
3+ years experience with SQL Server required
Additional experience with systems such as PostgreSQL and MongoDB desired
Knowledge of scripting in languages such as JavaScript, Python
Experience with data ETL
Experience with API calls (JSON & REST)
Demonstrated skill and passion for operational excellence
Excellent communication skills, the ability to work well in a team, strong customer focus, and ownership
Able to create and collaborate with others on the creation and maintenance of technical documentation
