Trainer / Instructional Design Lead

Responsibilities:

  • Organizes and drives design of Pathways to Home and HUD-VASH employee training initiatives using varied learning methodologies including classroom training, blended learning, job aids, experiential learning, and e-learning, all with a primary focus of developing employee skills to improve the quality of client interaction and client outcomes

 

  • Consults with SMEs, Program leadership, and the Learning & Development and HR teams to gather and verify information, identify needs, determine learning objectives, identify appropriate delivery methods, draft new training content, and review and update existing training

 

  • Supervises Instructional Designers and provides project management leadership for their initiatives including creation of project plans, task and milestone tracking, and mitigating delay risks

 

  • In partnership with the training coordinator, executes and oversees the logistics of training's including scheduling, announcements, technology needs, etc.       

     

  • Delivers instructor-led training directly to program employees and develops and delivers train-the-trainer sessions

Requirements:

  • Prefer certificate or degree in Instructional Design
  • Minimum three years’ experience developing and delivering highly-effective, creative, and engaging instructor-led employee development training experiences
  • Minimum two years’ experience designing materials in a role primarily focused on instructor-led training
  • Experience supervising others

Special  Skills Required to Perform this Position:

  • Strong knowledge of training delivery best practices
  • Strong knowledge of the instructional design process and principles, including adult learning theory, assessment, analysis, instructional strategies, and tactics
  • People leadership principles and practices
  • English grammar, punctuation, and mechanics
  • Very strong skills with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Outlook and Excel
  • Strong training delivery / facilitation skills
  • Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to interpret client needs
  • Comfort working efficiently and on-schedule on multiple projects with competing priorities
  • Strong people-leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate to a variety of audiences (verbal and written)
  • Copyediting content for errors, style, accuracy, and meaning
  • Ability to set effective priorities, handle multiple tasks, problem-solve, analyze and interpret data, be detail-oriented
  • Ability to work effectively within a diverse, cross-functional team across multiple sites
  • Effective interpersonal, negotiation, and diplomacy skills

Preferred Skills for this Position:

  • Proven familiarity with homeless services and related issues is a major plus
  • Proven familiarity with veteran populations is a plus
  • Experience with PDF creation/editing software is desirable
  • Knowledge in eLearning course authoring is desirable
  • Experience with LMS functionality is helpful
  • Experience designing and creating self-directed e-learning courses and converting existing in-class training materials to e-learning
