Social Media Specialist - Sanctuary (VAS)

Volunteers of America of Greater Los Angeles is a large, national not-for-profit organization founded in 1896. We provide a variety of social services to Los Angeles area communities such as Head Start programs, Upward Bound college prep programs, veterans’ services, homeless shelters, low-income housing program as well as drug and alcohol rehabilitation.   • Develop strategies with other Sanctuary staff to help identify, target, and provide support and resources for domestic victims of human trafficking
  • Provide street outreach, crisis stabilization, and trauma-informed care to potential domestic labor and sex trafficking victims
  • Successfully navigate social media and other forums, using tools like search term-triggered messages, website widgets, and text short codes, to find victims online, connect them with services, and encourage the general public to report suspected trafficking
  • Participate and assist with community awareness events, including providing victim awareness and identification training to law enforcement, FBOs and CBOs
  • Engage potential victims through gateway services and contacts weekly
  • Assist Case Manager/Victim Advocates with screenings, assessment, and development of ISPs and harm reduction plans
  • Participate with other staff members on a rotating schedule to provide immediate response for victims on a 24/7 basis; this includes close coordination with law enforcement, the NHTRC hotline, and other community providers of street outreach
  • Maintains all paperwork and required documentation, including participant database (HMIS)
  • Other duties as assigned  

Required Background and Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in social work, psychology or counseling from fully- accredited college or university; substantial experience may substitute for a college degree
  • Experience working with victims of sexual abuse and/or human trafficking
  • Extensive knowledge of technology, including internet, social media and classified ads and how these forums interface with human trafficking
  • Valid California driver's license and have reliable transportation
  • Ability and desire to work with people from various backgrounds
  • Must be at least 18 years old or the minimum age required by the State .Must be a U.S. citizen or a foreign citizen authorized to legally work in the United States
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening
  • Must be reliable and have the ability to multi-task
  • Must be able to work effectively with people from all walks of life with compassion
  • Able to communicate clearly, effectively, and compassionately work with others
