Project Roomkey - Airtel

Project Roomkey is a collaborative effort to secure hotel and motel rooms for vulnerable people experiencing homelessness. It provides a way for people who don’t have a home to stay inside to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Project Roomkey aims to not only protect high-risk individuals, but to also prevent the spread of the deadly virus in our communities and protect the capacity of our hospitals and healthcare system. The Project Roomkey program will provide temporary housing for people experiencing homelessness who are not COVID-19 positive or symptomatic, but are vulnerable to complications should they become infected with COVID-19. Participates in Project Roomkey, individuals must be 65 years of age or older or have underlying medical conditions or be medically compromised.

JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSE

Under direction of the Program Coordinator, the Shelter Attendant Coordinator will arrange, coordinate, supervise, mentor, and oversee the Monitor’s efforts to provide 24 hour / 7 day security of the program premises, and safety for program clients, visitors and employees.   The Shelter Attendant Coordinator works through Shelter Leads who are shift leaders of the Monitors, as well as directly leading and training Monitors.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assign shifts, ensure that Monitors are scheduled around the clock, plan personal shifts to observe each shift during the week, patrols to assure participants and other individuals are in compliance with facility policies.
  • Provides support for all meetings, events and functions at facility; supports daily routine for all participants.
  • Train Shelter Leads and Monitors in program operations, safety, and security expectations and procedures; the Shelter Attendant Coordinator participates in these core functions, and trains subordinates:
  • shelter Security
    1. SHELTER ENTRANCE MONITORING: The front door to the shelter is the only permitted entrance and exit for participants, employees, partners, and vendors. Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, participants, visitors, guest and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises.
    2. BAG & PERSON SCREENING: Monitors search all participants’ person and belongings being brought into the shelter each time a participant enters. This is a critical step in ensuring the safety and security of everyone. It is important to treat every participant with equal dignity and professionalism every time they are screened.
    3. Patrol premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates, etc. walking the facility and making reports as needed.
  • SHELTER SAFETY:
    1. While patrolling observe Shelter to ensure safe operations; report and correct any spills, unsafe working conditions, or defective equipment.
    2. Know location of fire exits, be prepared to assist participants in case of any emergency.   
    3. Monitor clients and conduct room checks; maintain records of client compliance of program rules, report to clinical/case management staff, assist clinical/case management staff as required.
    4. Call police or fire department in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized clients/persons.
  • ASSET PROTECTION:
    1. As a non-profit agency, VOALA must utilize all limited resources effectively and protect from theft loss or damage to the shelter’s assets.  Report all suspicious events to direct supervisor.
    2. Responsible to complete written reports and incidents logs of daily activities and irregularities, such as: unusual occurrences, equipment or property damage, theft, and presence of unauthorized persons.
    3. ACT AS A ROLE MODEL FOR PARTICIPANTS AT ALL TIMES.  Learn, understand and practice the professionalism expected – Put clients’/participants’ needs first.
  • CLIENT/PARTICIPANT SUPPORT:
    1. Answer telephones and take messages for clients and staff, monitor doors and greet visitors.
    2. Maintain office housekeeping; verifies all common areas, laundry areas and restrooms are clean and disinfected & fully operational
    3. Assist shelter staff during provision of services to clients/participants, including set-up for classes, meetings, meals, recreation, and other shelter events.
  • Responds to all situations identified by Monitors and Shelter Lead, completes incident reports and logs for daily events and irregularities.
  • Other duties that may arise to support program goals.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications

EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma or GED 

EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 years of related experience in a mental health or substance abuse treatment setting, or other group residential program.
  • Minimum of 1 year coaching,  mentoring, and leading staff.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications 

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:

  • Proficient Microsoft operating system skills: Outlook, Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work with issues related to homelessness, aging in place, substance abuse, mental health diagnosis, and history of trauma.
  • Ability to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflict, including dealing with un-cooperative clients.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule (evenings and weekends required)
  • Ability to coach and mentor staff
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and resolve client misconduct
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, with or without reasonable accommodation, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience serving the homeless is preferred.
  • Database familiarity
