Shelter Coordinator

We provide a variety of social services to Los Angeles area communities such as Head Start programs, Upward Bound college prep programs, veterans’ services, homeless shelters, low-income housing program as well as drug and alcohol rehabilitation.   • Oversee and ensure the safety of coworkers, participants, guests and property on the ground level daily.
  • Assure participants and other individuals are in compliance with facility policies with respect to weapons and other property.
  • Complete written reports and incident logs of daily activities and irregularities.
  • Identify and respond to all monitors and any issues that may come up within the shelter
  • Track all facility meetings and workshops as it relates to the client daily activities
  • Patrol, observe and report all activity to Program Manager on a daily basis.
  • Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, participants, and visitors to maintain security of property
  • May conduct searches or operate other detection devices in accordance with company policy.
  • Other duties as assigned



  • High school diploma or GED


  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in the field of homelessness or other social support services as a monitor 
  • Minimum of 1 year in a supervision/leadership role


  • Strong knowledge of  HIPAA, Programmatic standards of operation and clinical engagement, clinical documentation methods, client focused ideology
  • Strong knowledge of and ability to work with issues related to homelessness, aging in place, substance abuse, mental health diagnosis, and history of trauma

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication, set priorities, handle multiple tasks, problem solving, decision making, interpret data, detail oriented, accurate, analytical, organize, read/write; proficient in understanding and communication of the spoken and written English language, meet established deadlines
  • Deep understanding, ability to assess, and consult with team on participant acuity and appropriate levels of care through treatment team meetings.

  • Demonstrated strong communication and presentation skills required to advocate on the part of the clients served in court.

  • Ability to coach and mentor staff

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and problem solve complex client cases

Preferred Skills for this Position: 

  • 1 year working as a Shelter Lead or related
  • 2 years working with targeted population
