HEAD START/EARLY HEAD START
Through our Head Start and Early Head Start programs, we work with children (ages 0 – 5) and their families to provide the skills, confidence and stable home life necessary for a smooth transition into kindergarten and beyond. Children also receive a broad array of health services including screenings and referrals, maintenance of immunization schedules, nutrition assessments and follow-ups, mental health assessments as part of initial screenings, and determination if any mental or physical delays are present. Children receive health and dental services and have access to ongoing and acute and routine health and dental care. Enrolled children receive healthy meals, along with an assessment of their nutritional needs and the necessary follow-ups. Nutrition education is available for parents and incorporated into daily classroom activities for the children.

JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSE
The Program Assistant I – Nutrition, provides administrative support for implementation of a nutrition services programs for families and children. This position provides collaborative planning in conjunction with other support groups and agencies in meeting needs of families.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Nutrition Program Tasks:
- Under the direction of the Nutrition Coordinator, conduct in-person or online Nutrition classes for parents.
- Monitor assigned sites for compliance with USDA/Child and Adult Care Food Program regulations. Ensures
- Work with family advocates to ensure proper case management and follow-up with families who have children with nutritional risks.
- Provide technical assistance for site staff regarding meals, Nutrition screenings, and growth assessessments
- Conduct Growth assessments for all children within their assigned caseload
- Maintain continuing education in the areas of Nutrition, Head Start performance standards, and USDA regulations.
- Assist with record keeping of files and monitor family files within an assigned caseload.
- Must use a computerized data system to input, retrieve and update required data.
- Establish formal and effective lines of communication between staff in order to facilitate coordination and efficient flow of communication.
- Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one year of relevant experience in social work, case management in health, disabilities, mental health or parent involvement. (Associate of Arts degree in Social Services or related field can be used in place of the one year experience)
- Knowledge and understanding of issues related to individuals and families of low socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Proficiency with computer, including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with using a database program such as Child Plus

- A.A Degree in Social Services or related field
- Knowledge of Early Head Start/Head Start program.
- Experience with Child Plus
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (written and verbal)
- Valid Driver’s License
- Valid Car Insurance
- Reliable Vehicle
