Responsibilities:

The Payroll Manager pays employees and compiles payroll information by managing payroll preparation; completing reports; maintaining records by performing the following duties directly or through subordinate employees.
 

  • Maintains payroll information by directing the collection, calculation, and entering of data; updates payroll records by reviewing and approving changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, and job titles, and department/ division transfers by performing the following duties either directly or through subordinates
  • Pays employees by directing the production and issuance of paychecks or electronic transfers to bank accounts
  • Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages and determines payroll liabilities by approving the calculation of employee federal and state income and social security taxes and employer's social security, unemployment, and workers compensation payments; and balances the payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies
  • Implements, maintains and ensures proper usage of time and attendance system and provides time and attendance training for employees
  • Provides payroll information through employee communications (email, mailers, etc.) and by answering questions and requests and maintains payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions
  • Manages staff of 3 employees

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business preferred
  •  At least 7 years’ experience working in a payroll department with at least 3 years’ experience in a managerial role within a medium to large size company with multiple locations
  • Previous experience with the successful implementation of time and attendance systems
  • Previous experience using UltiPro Payroll software and/or  NOVATime time and attendance software is preferred

Additional Requirements:

  • Knowledge of federal and State labor laws, employee benefit plans, and payroll taxes
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail. Proficient with MS office application, specifically Excel
