Outreach Worker - (Pathways to Home)

Volunteers of America of Greater Los Angeles is a large, national not-for-profit organization founded in 1896. We provide a variety of social services to Los Angeles area communities such as Head Start programs, Upward Bound college prep programs, veterans’ services, homeless shelters, low-income housing program as well as drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Pathways is the largest homeless shelter in Los Angeles, providing a diverse group of services. Comprehensive Case Management Services, Affordable Housing Assistance, Transitional Housing Programs, Permanent Housing Placements, JWCH Mobile Clinic, Department of Health Services, USC-HIV Study/Prevention.


  • Provide street outreach and referral services
  • Work with Housing Coordinator to assist homeless people in response to requests received  
  • Provide linkages to resources available for the homeless population
  • Maintain a comprehensive up-to-date resource base for homeless services and referrals
  • Work with Housing Coordinator to plan daily transportation schedule
  • Maintain professional relationship with offices of local government, City and County Departments
  • Conduct crisis intervention as necessary
  • Participate and assists with outreach events
  • Documents and maintains up to date information on services provided
  • Other duties as assigned  


  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1 - 3 years' experience working in the field of homelessness
  • TB screening required annually
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Must be reliable and have the ability to multitask  

Additional Preferred:

  • Valid California driver's license and have reliable transportation
  • Clean driving record
  • Familiar with HMIS preferred
  • Ability and desire to work with people from various backgrounds
  • Willing to work weekends/evenings as necessary
