Outreach Worker - (CES SPA 6 - South Los Angeles)

Volunteers of America of Greater Los Angeles is a large, national not-for-profit organization founded in 1896. We provide a variety of social services to Los Angeles area communities such as Head Start programs, Upward Bound college prep programs, veterans’ services, homeless shelters, low-income housing program as well as drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Responsibilities:

  • Provide outreach and engagement to the homeless community through reports/referrals from shelters, police, churches, social services providers and others
  • Conduct comprehensive screenings and CES assessments with homeless individuals to develop a case plan
  • Provide crisis intervention if needed, and make referrals to appropriate community resources such as Crisis and bridge housing, mental health services, Substance abuse services, documentation, mainstream benefits, legal services, employment services, housing navigation, permanent housing, domestic violence services, childcare, family reunification and other community based services.
  • Provide Crisis counseling and advocacy for individuals
  • Maintain complete client records, daily activity logs, mileage logs, HMIS and other reports as directed
  • Attend CES Regional Case conference’s to coordinate services
  • Address urgent/immediate client needs and linking clients to necessary services
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

 Education:

  • High School Diploma or 1 year experience in related field

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year' experience (paid/unpaid) and demonstrated effectiveness work in social services, preferred homeless services
  • Ability to develop relationships with Individuals as well as a variety of service stakeholders (school, health and public benefit agencies)
  • Knowledge of domestic violence, poverty, and federally funded mainstream programs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; HMIS database experience strongly preferred
  • Valid California drivers license, insurance and reliable transportation preferred
  • Effective written and oral communication skills; bilingual (Spanish) preferred
