The SSVF Outreach specialist provides key linkages to veteran households who require services. The following duties may be handled in conjunction with Veteran's Administration staff, when applicable.

Responsibilities:

The SSVF Outreach Specialist for Female Veterans responsibilities are summarized as:

  • Conducts comprehensive assessments (CES surveys, vulnerability index tools etc.) to determine appropriate housing options, case management and other supportive service needs
  • Maintain and build partnerships and coalitions with other community and government agencies
  • Responsible for networking, collaborating and assisting participants in locating and obtaining housing in an expedient manner in line with the Housing First Model
  • Implements and consistently practices harm reduction, trauma informed care, housing first and integrated care interventions
  • Able to serve a diverse vulnerable client populations and communicate effectively in a culturally competent manner
  • Able to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment, utilizing professional, open and respectful communication
  • Maintains a solution focused, strengths based and client centered approach with managers, co-workers and clients of VOALA
  • Ensures performance management standards are met through ongoing supervision addressing barriers as they arise
  • Maintains client records according to HIPAA and adheres to all client confidentiality requirements and standards
  • Complies and maintains familiarity with agency and program policies and procedures and other applicable regulations
  • Attends and participates in supervision, staff meetings, trainings, conferences, workshops, and special projects to promote professional development
  • Models VOALA approach, mission, and core values in all communication, correspondence, community events, coalitions and advocacy efforts
  • Reports to work on time and maintains reliable and regular attendance
  • Reach out to low-income veteran households throughout Los Angeles County
  • Monitor and documents outreach progress and process
  • Provide SSVF information and referrals to community based organizations
  • Screen and evaluate veteran households for eligibility of SSVF services
  • Develop emergency support systems to meet client needs by identifying and coordinating a variety of available services necessary to maintain independent living, self-sufficiency and family stabilization
  • Conduct crisis intervention as necessary
  • Manage veteran household caseload as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

 Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience

Experience:

  • 1-year experience working with veterans, homeless, and/or substance abuse victims
  • 1-year experience doing client intakes, ensuring all supporting documents are verified and on file

Knowledge:

  • Knowledgeable of veteran resources available at the local, state, and national level

Technology Skills:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite/products and internet
  • Data entry and spreadsheet management

Skills and Abilities:

  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Valid California driver’s license and insured automobile
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively through verbal and written correspondence

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 - 3 years experience working with veterans, people in recovery and/or homeless individuals
  • Experience engaging the community and discussing program with community partners is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred
  • Experience conducting street outreach highly preferred
  • Experience with HMIS a plus
  • US Armed Forces Veteran preferred
  • Database experience (HMIS) preferred
