Monitor - (The LGBTQ - TLP for Homeless Youth)

Responsibilities:

The LGBTQ TLP Monitor will assist in monitoring the facility and clients with respect and compassion while ensuring client safety and security:

  • Answers telephones and takes messages for clients and staff; monitors doors and greets clients
  • Oversees preparation and serving of meals
  • Inputs required data to computer systems; completes written reports and incident reports
  • Secures the facility including periodically walking the facility and making reports as needed
  • Observes and reports suspicious or unusual activities to appropriate authorities
  • Dispenses client medications in accordance with instructions and maintains logs of client compliance; administers breathalyzer and urinalysis tests, as needed
  • Oversees front and back duplex units, physically checks on each participant in each bedroom hourly; checks outside perimeter areas.  Monitor station desk operations, including answering phones, monitoring doorway to bed space, handling crisis intervention, conducting searches of bags and person upon entry to VOALA property and other tasks as necessary
  • Provides reminders and prompts to participants about respecting house rules and taking care of their ADL’s (e.g. showering, eating, etc…), modeling life skills in trauma informed positive youth development framework, using respectful language and refraining from punishment
  • Communicates with case management and Program Manger about violations and participant non-compliance for handling by designated staff
  • Provide advice, encouragement and positive role modeling for clients 
  • All other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED, must be 21 years or older
  • 1 year in direct monitor service in residential treatment preferred, with at least
  • 1 year of experience in mental health, substance abuse treatment, and/or homelessness preferred
  • Basic computer skills
  • Proven ability to do basic arithmetic
  • Able to communicate clearly, effectively, and compassionately with others

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience with administering prescription medications and drug/alcohol usage testing desirable
  • Experience working with LGBTQ population or personal experience a plus 
  • Bi-lingual preferred (Spanish)
